Theoretically, the Church has not yet definitively closed the door on the possibility of women being ordained to the diaconate. Ordinatio Sacerdotalis dealt solely with the possibility of the ordination of women to the priesthood, and said it was not possible. Examination of the question of women’s ordination to the diaconate would be a separate issue, and a matter that the Church has yet to decide.
