On the history channel, (not the most pro-Christian channel;) ), they said that until about 70bc, the Romans did use a “torture stick” to crucify people. But about 100years before Christ was crucified, the change was made to the cross. I believe the reason was it prolonged the person’s death and allowed maximum amount of pain. The cross supplanted the torture stick because it was more “torturous”!

Jehovah’s witnesses say the cross was actually a pagan sex symbol.

Yes, as an ex-JW I can attest that they DO say that.
But stop and think a minute.
What looks more like an erect male organ?
A cross? Or an upright pole (which they use in their illustrations all the time) ???

Those people are so far off the deep end they’ll never be able to find the shore unless someone finds them and DRAGS them to shore. Thank God for his grace.

There is really a lot of great of information in this thread, so I’ll offer my humble opinion.

The main true reason why the Jehovah’s Witness group is wrong in their beliefs is this: They Believe Their Leaders Speak for God, and are God’s Only Way of Communicating to People on Earth.

All of their errors stem from this. I believe that JW’s hold absolutely no beliefs in common (some may question this) with the church that history shows Jesus established, thus the WATCHTOWER teaches COMPLETE FALSENESS.

You are 100% correct my friend.

For me the simplest explanation is authority. Everything they talk about comes from unseen elders that no one I’ve spoken to in the JW seems to know.

The JW’s or more precisely their founder took
a simple reading of an English version Bible and
tried to use it to support just about every rejected
heresy from the history of the Christian Church.

Almost every alternative view to the Bible is convincing
to those who dont know better.
