Wow! You have always been very charitable. That was a very ignorant thing to say. 😦
Sorry. I should have indicated that it was a joke. You know that I am not anti-EO, nor am I generally non-charitable.

mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.

I dont get it, Hisalone is making a big fuss, over Married religious from antiquity through the successors of the apostles? What gives? Roman Catholics have no problem with history or married religious. The vow of celibacy is volunteered, When a man volunteers his life into the consecrated sacramental life of Christ to live a celibate life as a Priest for God and his people, this should be reveered as an honor to God not negatively, the Roman Catholic church is very fortunate for our Priests to live a life of celibacy for God and his Roman Catholic church, without the interuptions of the World, serving God and his Church.

Hisalone, You mean to tell me your religion has no celebrating celibate religious in your religion, or is it that these Roman Catholic Priests and Monks, and Woman religious cause you harm for their dedicated life to God for such devotion and Love for God to give up their worldly desires?, Maybe your religious or other protestant denominations religious refuse to give up worldly passions and desires of the flesh for God.

Their is no reason to raise an issue over celibate Priest and religious in the Roman Catholic church, who give their lives totally to serve God and his people. I hope you are not showing envy for such an honorable sacrifice given to God from the Roman Catholic Priesthood and Religious.

What is your gripe about few successors of the apostles including some first century apostles were married before they became Religious or a Priest in the Catholic church. What you fail to disclose here on this topic and I would challenge you to read reliable sources, that many of these who were married before becoming a Catholic Priest, took their vows of celibacy while being married upon the approval of their wife, and remained celibate Priests and religious throughout their lives, so that what God has joined together let no man put asunder law is lived out, from their sacramental vows before God.

Hisalone, before making attempts to discredit the body of Jesus Christ, if you disclose all the Truth, you will have no problem. But if you deliberately withhold the whole Truth about the history of the Roman Catholic church, know that Truth will eventually get revealed. So Please dont lie or withhold the full Truth.

Peace be with you

Christ did not make celibacy a requirement.
He modelled it, yean. Did ye nae hear what we hae been saying here??
What part of “The Imitation of Christ” is it that ye dinnae understand???
Time for you to move on also.
:tsktsk:Manners, manners, or I will have to:mad: send you to bed without your supper, laddie.

Maybe you should move on to the next topic and just admit Catholics have this wrong.

Christ chose married men to be apostles.
If being celibate was a requirement for leadership then He never would have done so.

game, set, match.
where in scripture does it say all the apostles were married?

“Do we not have the right to take along a Christian wife, as do the rest of the apostles, and the brothers of the Lord, and Kephas?” (NAB, 1Co 9:5)

Scholars agree John was probably not married but perhaps all the rest were.

You have chosen to try and improve on what Christ began. Christ began with married men.

OBIEDIENCE

Hebrews 13 17 Obey your prelates, and be subject to them. For they watch as being to render an account of your souls; that they may do this with joy, and not with grief. For this is not expedient for you.

Acts Of Apostles 20 28 Take heed to yourselves, and to the whole flock, wherein the Holy Ghost hath placed you bishops, to rule the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.

Ephesians 6 5 Servants, be obedient to them that are your lords according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in the simplicity of your heart, as to Christ:

The Trullan Synod (692 A.D.), also known as the Quinisext, determined that bishops should not be married, but marriage was permitted for deacons and priests before ordination. No marriage was allowed after ordination. A priest or a deacon could not renounce his wife on the pretense of piety, but sexual relations were prohibited prior to celebrating the liturgy, which usually meant the Sunday observance

This is a case were the Catholic Church holds fast to the traditions of men rather than be biblical.

This is a case were the Catholic Church holds fast to the traditions of men rather than be biblical.
1 Thess. 4:2 – Paul again refers the Thessalonians to the instructions they already had received, which is the oral apostolic tradition.

2 Thess. 2:5 – Paul yet again refers the Thessalonians to the previous teachings they received from Paul when he taught them orally. These oral teachings are no less significant than the written teachings.

2 Thess. 2:15 - Paul clearly commands us in this verse to obey oral apostolic tradition. He says stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught, either by word of mouth or letter. This verse proves that for apostolic authority, oral and written communications are on par with each other. Protestants must find a verse that voids this commandment to obey oral tradition elsewhere in the Bible, or they are not abiding by the teachings of Scripture.

2 Thess. 2:15 - in fact, it was this apostolic tradition that allowed the Church to select the Bible canon (apostolicity was determined from tradition). Since all the apostles were deceased at the time the canon was decided, the Church had to rely on the apostolic tradition of their successors. Hence, the Bible is an apostolic tradition of the Catholic Church. This also proves that oral tradition did not cease with the death of the last apostle. Other examples of apostolic tradition include the teachings on the Blessed Trinity, the hypostatic union (Jesus had a divine and human nature in one person), the filioque (that the Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son), the assumption of Mary, and knowing that the Gospel of Matthew was written by Matthew.

You have chosen to try and improve on what Christ began. Christ began with married men.
He also chose men who wore sandals and robes.

I’m thinking that you must think that the only men who should be priests, so as not to try to “improve” on Christ, are sandal-wearing, robe-wrapping fishermen who happen to be Jewish and live in the middle east.

I don’t know why you think that something that isn’t forbidden is wrong, especially when it (celibacy) is very much praised in the Bible.

where in scripture does it say all the apostles were married?
It doesn’t matter if all were, or none were.

Celibacy is a discipline that was adopted long ago. It’s a valid discipline that’s built on rock solid logic. There is nothing wrong with it.

Jesus didn’t forbid celibacy. In fact, the Bible holds celibacy in very high regard.

To Hisalone - the priesthood is about service. Service to God and the people. Knowing that might help you understand why celibacy is considered a good thing.

The celibacy rule might be changed someday. Who knows.

You have chosen to try and improve on what Christ began. Christ began with married men.
Mathew 19

27 Then Peter answering, said to him: Behold we have left all things, and have followed thee:

29 And every one that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife,or children, or lands for my name’s sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall possess life everlasting.

“Biblical?” What verse do you think requires a priest to be married? Suppose a priest is married and his wife dies, does that suddenly disqualify the man from his vocation, since he’s no longer married?

“Traditions of men” are only bad if they CONFLICT with God’s word. Here no conflict exists.

So men thought to improve on Christ who chose married men to be apostles?
“Improve on Christ?” No. Nobody thought to “improve on Christ.” That’s silly.

Do you think Christ chose only married men? He didn’t. The Apostle Paul was unmarried.

Biblically, you cannot say that he only called married men. Biblically, you cannot say that he only called single men.

Biblically, you CAN say that both Jesus and Paul encouraged a single state for those who served God.

Biblically, you CAN state that Jesus said we must be willing to forsake everythign to follow him.

There is no conflict with the Church’s position and the Bible.

And, again, I would point out that EO Bishops are CELEBATE

StMatthew 20;29"And everyone who has left house, brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers, wives, children,or lands for my sake…"is Christ telling people to abondon there wives and children, kinda heartless, but following the Church’s teaching says He meant by being celibate one gives up wife and children, and by becoming a preist one leaves behind all in order to follow Him and to preach in his name.something very few if any protesants try to follow.

This is a case were the Catholic Church holds fast to the traditions of men rather than be biblical.
Let me correct what you are trying to state? The Roman Catholic Church Holds fast to Sacred Tradition and Sacred Scritpure, you cannot have one without the other.

Jesus states clearly in scripture that those who are called of God, some are called to be Eunichs, and others are made Eunichs. Not to mention that their are many Priests in heaven, and a selected of them are virgin men. So your comment has no reflection of traditions of men, for the traditions of men change, the apostolic Tradition does not change, nor does God’s Word.

Nice try though hisalone, Peace be with you

Do you think Christ chose only married men? He didn’t. The Apostle Paul was unmarried.
But now you have made it a requirement, thus you have decided to “improve” on Christ.

But you have through your tradition of man made it a requirement that priests be celibate. Contrary to any requirement of Christ.

Christ didnt find it to be a requirement.
Can you tell me why you think you can improve on Christ?
A requirement, no, but Jesus DOES allude to it and there are those who all called to it. I also dont think it should be a requirement, but to those who would be called to it, such as those in religious orders, then it is a commendable practice. As a side note, many world religions have those who follow this path.
