Why is the scent of roses associated with the Blessed Virgin Mary? I know that somehow roses are special in relation to Mary but do not know exactly why.

The rose is a flower that has been long associated with the Virgin Mary. Among her rose titles are Mystical Rose, Royal Virgin of David’s Rose, Roseplant in Jerusalem, and Rosebush in Jericho. The word rosary is itself taken from the image of weaving a garland of roses to offer to Mary (the roses being an image of prayers). Because of Mary’s association with roses, the scent of roses is sometimes considered to be a sign of Mary’s intercession for the petitioner.
