Why is there a catholic and a Protestant Cemetary

Why are catholics burried on seperate grounds than Protestants. i have often wondered this. In My home town the Cemetary is divided by a road. I was told the reason for this was that only catholics are going to heaven.

We have 2 cemeteries rolled into one. Maple Grove established in 1858 and right behind it St.Mary’s established in 1865. In the back all that are buried are Catholic. Now the 2 have merged and Catholic and Protestants are buried in various sections except the old Catholic section. Catholic section pretty much filled

I’ve already asked for sky burial. Basically it involves putting the body on a platform for buzzards to eat, then when the sun bleaches out the bones, they’re taken down.

Nah, my physical earthly remains would look the same as everyone else’s that isn’t incinerated by cremation. Only difference is that my family would save a ton of cash by literally throwing me to the birds!

I have seen this done in india. well… the body is taken to a scared place, cut up and feed to the vultures. something to do with reincarnation. if you’re so into the circle of life. why not when you die, donate some of your organs so that others have a chance at life?
reminds me of a bumbper sticker i saw once. “don’t take your organs with you when you die. Heaven knows we need them here.”

Sorry I just cannot find better reason for the separate cemetaries, except for maybe because of the difference in belief.

Not trying to stir the pot…really I’m not, but if you change the word “belief” to “biases” you will have hit the mark. I know that in many places in the south there are very evident demarcation lines in cemeteries. So and so would never ever think of lying for all eternity near those “…” (insert denominational tag)!! And it would seem that the only place you do not see those biases is in Veterans cemeteries.

Quite funny depend on how you see it.

Or sad, depending on how you see it. Its really quite sad to see how biases and prejudices carry over even into death…especially when we all want to get to the same place ultimately.

Yes. But as I said only if you have good ticket and proper travelling paper.

At Atlanta, the immigration guys are quite lenient. They correct your paper; it may take awhile, but eventually they’d let you go. That works fine for poor Catholics!

It’s better than being locked up at the terminal and being sent to another direction where the climate is hot all year round.
