Why is this Person an often-forgotten and misunderstood member of the Trinity?

Yes same with ‘come Holy Spirit’ …if you are in line with the teachings of Jesus Christ and His Church then you already have the Holy Spirit.

Without the Holy Spirit we would be crippled
@Diaconia , the words from your post in a way hit the nail on the head .

So many spiritually lead crippled lives because they are unaware of who they are and what they have through their Baptism .

Through Baptism our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit .

Through Baptism God has made His dwelling in us .

Just on those two points we ought to stop in our tracks and exclaim “WOW !”

What is the primary and ultimate need of the Church ?

Blessed Pope Paul VI gave his answer during a General Audience on Nov. 29 1972 .

Pope Paul VI said : “More than once we have asked ourselves what the greatest needs of the Church are… what is the primary and ultimate need of our beloved and holy Church? We must say it with holy fear because, as you know, this concerns the mystery of the Church, her life: this need is the Spirit… the Church needs her eternal Pentecost; she needs fire in her heart, words on her lips, a glance that is prophetic."

But what little notice so many Catholics take of prophetic words such as those of Pope Paul VI .

Oh , we make the odd deference in prayer now and again to the Holy Spirit .

Yes in the Creed we say that we believe in Him .

Before exams He may be brought into the act by a quick prayer .

But for so many their lives are not lived on a daily basis in the Spirit , and few would say with Pope Paul VI that the Holy Spirit is the primary and ultimate need of the Church .

Small wonder the Church is submerged in so many problems , scandals , and disunity .

We just don’t get who we are and what we possess , and we just struggle along weakly , neglecting the Source of all the power , enlightenment , love , consolation , and guidance we need . And that Source is already within waiting .

Many folks take a New Age approach to the Holy Spirit. They think of Him as an “it” instead of a person, and instead of being a spiritual guide in complete accord with the Trinity, is just an invisible sidekick that approves of everything their “conscience” tells them to do.

Traditional Catholics might say the old Litany of the Holy Ghost or read Fr. Paul O’Sullivan’s book, “The Holy Ghost: Our Greatest Friend”. They likely remember the Holy Ghost too but aren’t calling on him to be working in themselves every minute.

We humans don’t have access to the Holy Spirit. Only the gift of the Holy Spirit.

This Person of the Trinity is not celebrated separated as a sign of meekness.
There are many people who claim to have access to Him and perform miracles. But miracles in themselves are not a clear sign of Christ’s presence. Demons have powers too and deceiving is one of them.

We humans don’t have access to the Holy Spirit. Only the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Uhm, no. That is a grave misunderstanding of the orthodox teaching of the Catholic faith.
The word “gift” imports an aptitude for being given. And what is given has an aptitude or relation both to the giver and to that to which it is given. For it would not be given by anyone, unless it was his to give; and it is given to someone to be his. Now a divine person is said to belong to another, either by origin, as the Son belongs to the Father; or as possessed by another. But we are said to possess what we can freely use or enjoy as we please: and in this way a divine person cannot be possessed, except by a rational creature united to God. Other creatures can be moved by a divine person, not, however, in such a way as to be able to enjoy the divine person, and to use the effect thereof. The rational creature does sometimes attain thereto; as when it is made partaker of the divine Word and of the Love proceeding, so as freely to know God truly and to love God rightly. Hence the rational creature alone can possess the divine person. Nevertheless in order that it may possess Him in this manner, its own power avails nothing: hence this must be given it from above; for that is said to be given to us which we have from another source. Thus a divine person can “be given,” and can be a "gift."

St. Thomas Aquinas, Summa Theologiae, I, Q. 38, co.

The Holy Spirit is the Love b/w the Father and Son. It was bestowed upon the Chruch at Pentecost. As Free willed peoples, we have the ability to receive it and give it.

Look at Mary’s visitation to Elizabeth. Mary conferred the Holy Spirit upon Elizabeth and the unborn child.

Good thing Elizabeth chose life.

It is so sad when someone says God is on his side, or his party’s side, and it is just not so.
One could say it is sad when Catholics don’t acknowledge that there is spiritual warfare and that Our Lady said the final battle will be the attack on the family. Yes we know that the reply to that from many is that it is private revelation but, of course, many believe that it is Truth. So we look to St. Paul…
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we are not contending against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. …
I believe God is on the side of those who fight to protect innocent human life.

God is on the side of the unjustly accused, like His Son.
He also has love for those victims of assault who suffer.
He doesn’t like it much when people twist a situation and persecute a man for political advantage though. That happened to His Son too.

Also the mentality that ‘we’ have the Holy Spirit but ‘they’ don’t akin to the ‘personal relationship with Jesus’ nonsense. Oh they must have the Holy Spirit because they are raising their hands in the air and doing the hokey pokey? The Holy Spirit is very much present at a Traditional Latin Low Mass.

Great post except for your last sentence. The Holy Spirit doesn’t “work overtime” because there is no time with Him:

Heavenly King, Advocate, Spirit of Truth, Who are everywhere present and fillest all things, Treasury of blessings and Giver of life, come and dwell within us, cleanse us of all that defiles us and save, O Good One, our souls.

This prayer begins ALL Divine Services in the Byzantine Tradition.

Ephesians 6: 10-17. This epistle is read a few times a year in our church. Very apropos.

We have seen the true light, we have received the heavenly Spirit, we have found the true Faith, we worship the undivided Trinity for having saved us.

This is sung after Holy Communion at every Divine Liturgy.

Yes I am aware but thank you for pointing it out in such a beautiful way. I was just using slang to illustrate how bad the crisis is in the Church

My sincere apologies for political remarks in this Spirituality forum.
