Why is this phrased repeated in the Bible?

"And Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart."
(Luke 2:19)

The above phrase is repeated numerous times in the Bible. Usually, when something is repeated in the Bible, it is repeated because, it is are important…right?

Do, any Protestant, on-Catholic Christians (or Catholics) here, have an opinion, as to why this phrase is repeated in the Bible?

Thank you, I look forward to your responses…
Mary somehow knew that meditating on the truth and in so doing hiding the Word in her (our) heart, is the best way to be able to trust God in the times of trials. The bigger the trial, the more import we have God’s Word hidden in our hearts (Psalm 119:9,11). Mary would face many trials because of Jesus and she was a model ‘Christian’ because she kept the truths of Jesus in her heart.

The Body must make visible God’s greatness because what is proclaiming divine greatness is not (visible). If the bodies principle of life is proclaiming divine greatness it will by necessity be making it visible. Divine greatness being divine is not corruptable. Whether proclaimed by His Word or a human soul if it is corrupt it is not divine.
Im trying to follow you I really am, but you lost me.

Good stuff

I’m sorry. Ok, we are talking about divine greatness. And Mary’s body makes divine greatness visible. The principle of life is the soul. What a soul proclaims the body makes visible. The Fall of Adam and Eve demonstrate this. Their soul proclaimed the law of death and their bodies made that visible because it had become an object of shame, something to be hidden because it now made rebellion visible because it is animated by a soul in rebellion.

Mary’s soul proclaims divine greatness. WOW! How does her body make that visible? The Incarnation!. If a body is animated by a soul that proclaims divine greatness it will make that visiblwe just as Adam and Eve’s ( and ours)made the fall visible.

Yessssssssssssssssssssssss

And how do we as Christbearers make the divine visable?

In as much as we offer our bodies as a living sacrifice, refering to the lessons of St Paul, in as much as we overcome the rebellion of the body it can be submissive to the Holy Spirit our soul recieved at Baptism and proclaim the death and resurrection of Our Savior Jesus. I can’t call this a soul that proclaims divine goodness but it is a soul that proclaims the law of love that it recieved from divine greatness.

We are all called to be saints to bring light(the light of Christ) to a dark and dying world. For truly it is Christ in us the hope of glory.

Your reaching Jimmy.

Why wouldnt your soul proclaim the greatness of theLord?
Hello Hisalone,

I’m reaching??? How so, by posting Bible verses?

Does this mean that you agree, that Catholics proclaim the greatness of the Lord with their souls?

So, are you admitting that Mary, in addition to being the mother of God, was also a great follower and disciple of Christ?

Or, are you attempting to minimize Mary and her relationship to Christ?

What do you make of the fact that she was present during Pentecost?

What are your thoughts regarding Mary surrendering herself and her life, in every way, including giving birth to Him, raising Him and protecting Him, all those things that you have never done, or will ever do as a Christian?

She stayed with Him to the foot of His Cross, even after most of His Apostles and disciples had abandoned Him and she was there, present with Him, after His resurrection???

What was your role in Christian History?

What was your role in Christian Salvation?

Are you mentioned in the Bible?

Are you under the impression that your “relationship” with Jesus, is somehow as close or closer than His mother’s, Mary?

Are a “better Christian” than Mary?

What does this comment of yours mean?

…She is to be admired and imitated but our eyes must constantly be on Christ.
They are, this is what Catholics believe now and what they have believed for hundreds of years, well before there existed any other Christian denomination.

Mary’s soul (mind, will and emotions) proclaimed the greatnes of God.
Any human can do the same if they so choose.
We can choose?

you really think this was Mary’s goal in life? to be questioned of her integrity? Willing to be stoned to death?

I’m glad you are so willing. Can you say that you ever gave God a reason to even check you out for such an assignment?

We can choose?
We take life as it comes.

The followers of Jesus did have their integrity questioned. To pagans they were thought to hate humanity, because they refused to worship the false gods which protected and sustained the empire.

To the larger community of Jews they were heretics.

Saint Stephen was not only willing to “magnify the Lord”, he did so in public before the Sahedron, and was stoned to death.

Saint James likewise, not so many years later.

Saint Mary escaped that fate, by tradition she was taken by Saint John to Ephesus (far from the dangers of Jerusalem), where she lived out her days in relative peace.

She advanced in age and died quietly, and had a nice funeral. 🙂 By tradition all the Apostles were present but Saint Thomas.

All were present but Thomas?

But, Christ loved him!

I never knew that before. But, I did know Paul of Tarsus was standing by while St. Stephan was being stoned.

I guess Jesus leaves a lot of clues about how people who he may chose, (like Judas) may not turn out so good but he chose them anyway.

I love the iconography. I started a thread about God and art. I just want to believe that God can reach us through means other than what we have now. Many people for many years, could not even read, and what did they have but icons and stained glass windows depicting these things? Or the catacombs… Maybe there is more. Not the bible in hand, that is certain.

I even love looking at the art in the lettering of the bibles…

I love how catholics and orthodox kiss their bibles, hold them up, and in the Orthodox churches, they insense every Divine Liturgy. I am told it is twice a year or funerals in the catholic church.

I like the insence also. It seems to go with the icons, or windows and statues somehow.

He arrived too late.

They opened the tomb to give him a chance to pay his last respects… and the body was gone!

This is the origin of the belief that she was assumed bodily into heaven. We take it on faith, although it seems no one actually witnessed it.

He was also present at the funeral of Saint Mary Theotokos.

In the Divine Liturgy the icons are incensed, and the deacon (or priest) turns to incense the people as well.

We are all… after all… icons of Christ. 🙂

it is about contemplation which is a form of prayer. we come to know god and understand his mysteries in our hearts not our heads.

Those pictures of the Divine Liturgy made me want to go again. I have to wait until Sunday though. I will go then.

Then you disagree that Faith is compatible with reason?

Does someone have an icon of Mary with her child that is early in date?

I heard one of the actual apostles did the first one.

That, is of course tradition. But, if anyone knows what it looked like, could they post it?
