Why isn’t adoration of the blessed sacrament a sacrament? Anybody know?

A sacrament is
  1. An outward sign
  2. Instituted by Christ
  3. To give grace
Adoration is wonderful, but it isn’t any of those three things. It was a devotion that came about much later than the time of Christ. It disposes us to receive divine grace in the sacraments, but it is not itself a sacrament.

In Sacraments God connects directly with us & effects a change via grace through use of signs and symbols. For ex, in baptism water (symbolizing washing, the Red Sea crossing out of slavery, rebirth, etc) is used along with the words of the priest to directly connect us into the family of God, cleanse us of original sin, and make a change to our souls. Adoration is great - it allows us to see the Blessed Sacrament as we pray to Him… but it ISNT what a Sacrament is. There are no words, no outward signs that effect an inward & invisible reality, etc. They’re both great just… different.
