Why is Epiphany not one of the mysteries of the Rosary? It would be more important than, say, the presentation in the temple and the finding in the temple, right?

The Epiphany is one of the mysteries of the Franciscan Crown Rosary. It comes right after the Nativity.

As to why it’s not part of the Dominican Rosary, you’ll have to ask Our Lady, because she is the one who created the mysteries.

I’m of the opinion that a mediaeval Carthusian monk is responsible for the choice of mysteries, and the fact that they have stood the test of time (when there have been competing schemes) is a sign of their appropriateness.

As far as why no Epiphany, I was thinking about that this week, too. My best guess is that it is basically included in the third Joyful Mystery (as are finding no room in the inn, the angelic choirs, the shepherds, etc.). The 4th and 5th Joyful mysteries touch on other themes, with different associations, so this arrangement gives a maximum breadth of material for meditation, in a small number of mysteries.

They can be a part of your mysteries when you pray the Rosary. 😃

I often prayed the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan by John where the Trinity was manifest to the world, The Transfiguration where the glory of Christ was revealed, and the institution of the Holy Eucharist, and now look. They are a part of the Luminous Mysteries. lol You can imagine my surprise at that announcement!!

I was about to say the same thing, that the baptism of Jesus being part of the Luminous Mysteries.

Then I thought - maybe the OP is speaking of the Latin celebration of Epiphany as the Adoration of the Magi. If so, it would be easy to expand the third joyful mystery to include the Adoration, after all the rosary is a private devotion.

With the 7 sorrows rosary, they say Mary had her heart pierced, 7 times, by the Sword of Sadness. A couple of those times were during the Presentation and during the Finding in the Temple, but they were also joyous, as well.

That could be why, though.

Thanks for the answers. Lots to mull over when I say my Rosary!

According to our priest, the Epiphany, Nativity, and Baptism of the Lord were once all one celebration at the time the Epiphany is now celebrated in the Latin rite by itself. They are all revelations of Jesus’ divinity. So, it is a private devotion and you could reasonably include other pieces together.
