why isnt everyone Catholic?

I have a question for all you non christens / catholic’s ,why are you not Catholic’s is it because you simple don’t like the Catholic church or is it because you just don’t like the rules the catholic church has, and if its not those two things then what is it? please reply because I would like to know.

I would bet that for some, it is because they don’t agree with some or all of what the Catholic Church teaches. Others may have been born into other religions and never had a reason to consider anything else.

Crummy Catholics, misunderstanding the Catholic Church or personal sin.

No one has ever honestly rejected the Catholic Church, just what they think it is or by personal sin have rejected it.

My hobby is talking with non-catholic pastors, I am still seeking an honest one or one that honestly understands the Catholic Church.

Everyone should be Catholic, there is no reason not to be Catholic.

Why am I not a catholic?

That is a very complicated question. I would be unable to answer that question if I had an hour to speak about it, but here are a few reasons. Here are the reasons, without the proper sugar-coating.

1. The casual cruelty of catholics and evangelicals. Specifically, the condemnation of the sin above the loving of the sinner. I find it absolutely horrifying the amount of time catholics spend condemning homosexuality, in particular. It is impossible to respect the dignity of a person while telling them they are damned to hell–it is fundamentally impossible contradiction. Many more examples if you want them.
2. Infalliability. I find it arrogant that a mere mortal speaks with the voice of God. Just because there is a claim of infalliabilty, does not mean one is actually infalliable.
3. Praying to Mary, saints etc. Enough said.
4. Condoms. Millions are dying in Africa because people are obstinately clinging to abstinence only education, despite mountains of evidence saying it doesnt work. I find it horrifying that millions of people are being infected because of a crusade against latex. Many women in Africa do not have a choice about when to engage in intercourse–condoms are cheap and easy to distribute and will save laves. To not distribute condoms because of religious convictions that many do not share is outrageous.
5. The use of papal encyclicals as the only means of proper morality.

Basically, I do not like the trappings and traditions of the CC. I don’t like the fact that the CC considers itself to be, mostly, the only pathway to salvation. It seems to me it is nothing less than, " My church is better than your church". Misguided policies, skewed morality, cruelty against homosexuals wrapped in religious teachings, etc. are the reasons why I am not catholic, and will not be a catholic.

This is just my 2 cents, it does not mean I am right. But it is an honest answer to your question.

Ever occur to you that some people feel at peace with their own religion and never have a reason to leave??? Contrary to popular belief, not everyone hates the Catholic Church.

Good answer Mattyc4, I agree there are a lot of crummy Catholics who make it difficult to not want to be Catholic.

Now everything else on your list has an easy answer and I can certainly answer them if you PM me. Then you can become Catholic and straighten us out because there are a lot of uncharitable and crummy Catholics. We need a lot more people who care about what is wrong and want to do what is right.

So I invite you to PM me as Catholicism isn’t really what you think it is and it is really pretty cool. Just lies, misinterpretation and crummy Catholics make it look murky.

Here are some quick answers real quick.

1. Crummy Catholics not following Catholic teaching.
2. Truth matters and Catholics don’t believe the Pope speaks for God, so I invite you to recheck your source for this. (PM me)
3. We don’t worship anyone but God, so there is nothing wrong with showing love for God’s family. (PM me and I will prove this is good and correct)
4. If people actualy followed Catholic teaching there would be no problem, so you are blaming the problems on people not following Catholic teaching.
5. Catholics don’t believe that either.
6. Please show me where cruelty is in Catholic teaching? It seems that the this is another case of crummy Catholics which I agree there are plenty of us.

Why not become Catholic, then as it seems you have no valid objection other than being too good for us. I agree most of us are pretty crummy but I am working at letting God make me a better person.

I am a Christian because I believe Jesus Christ died once on the cross in payment for all of my sins. On the cross He said, “It is finished.” Hebrews 10:12 says He offered one sacrifice for sins forever.

One reason I’m not a Catholic is that it is my understanding that the Catholic Church teaches that the sacrifice of the Mass replays this sacrifice over and over again. And through that sacrifice a person receives forgiveness for sins that did not take place at the cross.

I would understand this to be an attempt to take the glory from my Lord Jesus. He must receive all the glory for my salvation.
