The doctrine is rooted in the Communion of Saints. There are the Saints, those we believe are in the immediate presence of God (Heaven), and there are saints, those of us who are the living stones of the Church today. While separated by death, we are in communion with each other, in and through Jesus Christ. He is the center of our communion.

Just as we pray as a living communion with each other, as a church, in our families, amongst our friends, so we pray as an entire communion, the living and the dead. Praying to Saints is asking them to join in our prayers, the same as asking the living to join in our prayers.

Scripture is full of events where the prayers of a faithful community are heard by God.

Excalibur, are you sure you’re a Catholic? I want to give you the benefit of the doubt, and your question is honest enough for anyone, but those other responses seem very Protestant. Are you playing devil’s advocate?

In order to think its wrong you must first be confused about what it means to pray. Praying is not automatically worship.

ya think? You’ll have to take your difference of opinion up with the Almighty then since Our Blessed Lord Jesus Christ specifically tells us, ***“Now he is not God of the dead, but of the living; for all live to him.” ***(Luke 20:38)

I know its hard for you to accept because of what you have been taught.
The bible is the true word of God, we need to back up our truth with what the word of God says and not what man says.

Have you ever even attempted to read and study the Catechism of the Catholic Church? Nowhere will you ever find a more concise and eloquent treatise on Christian faith, nor one more rooted in the Sacred Scriptures. The notes on each section are an in depth study in themselves.

You cannot supply a single passage of scripture that lays claim to the Bible being the final and ultimate authority for all that Christians believe and practice. Since it’s not in the Bible, that whole SS doctrine violates its own errant premise and so…even by its own standards, cannot be a valid Christian doctrine.
