I took a look at the readings for this coming Sunday, and I think the first reading especially resonates with the OP.
Habakkuk 1:2-3; 2:2-4

How long, O LORD? I cry for help
but you do not listen!
I cry out to you, “Violence!”
but you do not intervene.
Why do you let me see ruin;
why must I look at misery?
Destruction and violence are before me;
there is strife, and clamorous discord.

Then the LORD answered me and said:
Write down the vision clearly upon the tablets,
so that one can read it readily.
For the vision still has its time,
presses on to fulfillment, and will not disappoint;
if it delays, wait for it,
it will surely come, it will not be late.

The rash one has no integrity;
but the just one, because of his faith, shall live.
I added the bold emphasis. As I understand it, this reading tells us that we should not despair, but have faith. Trust in God. The burden is not all on us. God’s grace will carry us through.

And I’m not just thinking about or referring to controversies surrounding the church or the pope. I’m thinking of all the struggles of the church, and of all good people, against the ills and evils of modern society. It seems overwhelming, but God’s plan is moving forward. Be not afraid.

What really get’s me about peoples reaction to the new Pope, is not the fearmongers, who probably only constitute a very tiny minority, but rather those who seem to be of the opinion that we’re now being asked to do things all differently. At the churches I’ve been attending, I haven’t noticed any unusual changes, and I don’t think that’s a bad thing, and just in case anyone finds my tone in anyway negative, I’ll add that I strongly believe that the Pope’s call for a national day of prayer and fasting for peace in Syria is really what we need more of.

Brother Jay asked it already. Why don’t we just place it in the hands of the Immactulate?

I don,t worry about what the people say,Pope Franicis is a very thurthful man, and will us us in the right direction,we just must keep our faith in God,that the Holy Spirit will lead Our Pope to say the right things. Amen
