Why do we say “Jesus” instead of “Joshua”? Wasn’t Jesus’ name really Joshua in Aramaic or Hebrew?

Jesus is an English transliteration of Christ’s name as it is rendered in Greek Iesous. Joshua is an English transliteration of Christ’s name in the original Hebrew Yeshua. The name itself means “God saves.” English speakers use the name “Jesus” because it is the common English form of Christ’s name.
