Why "Jesus looked at them" at Matthew 19:26

Hi,
How come in Matthew 19:26, does the seemingly insignificant detail (at least to me), that Jesus looks at his apostles, included in this verse?

But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
RSV-2CE

Might be best to read MT 19:16-30

Maybe hes astonished that they still didn’t get what he was teaching them.
 
Cornelius a Lapide says
Verse 26- But Jesus beheld. Greek, ε̉πιβλέψας. Jesus looking upon his disciples, regarding them with a benign countenance, calmed the timidity and anxiety of their minds.

St. John Chrysostom says
Therefore, having first beheld them, He said unto them, The things which are impossible with men, are possible with God. For with a mild and meek look, having soothed their shuddering mind, and having put an end to their distress (for this the evangelist signified by saying, He beheld them), then by His words also He relieves them, bringing before them God’s power, and so making them feel confidence.

Bishop John McEvilly says
In order to assuage their sorrow, our Redeemer, first, regarding them with a look of pity, and compassion (Mark 10:27),
