Hi

I was just thinking Jesus never prophesized that Saul of Tarsus or Paul would someday, in his absence, reconvert to Christianity and he would be Jesus’ successor. Nowhere, as I understand, we find it in any Gospel.

What is your opinion about it?

Thanks

Because firstly Paul never REconverted. It’s not like he began as a Christian and THEN left and came back. He was converted to Christianity, yes, so have billions of people been over the centuries, and as 3,000 people did on one day alone at Pentecost. Jesus would hardly bother to individually name all of them.

Secondly Paul WASN’T Jesus’ successor. No-one was Jesus’ successor as you conceive of the term. There have been none who were prophets as Jesus was, nor any who were the Messiah as Jesus was. And no-one’s ever come close to claiming Paul or anyone since was God incarnate. So neither Paul nor anyone since Jesus have ever been anywhere near assuming the same role that Jesus had.

Neither was Paul the main leader of the early Christians even (Peter and to a lesser extent James had that role after Jesus died, as Jesus DID explicitly give the task to them).

Prophecy for Paul particularly is unnecessary as explained in the post above. But this prophecy may be relevant - as it is for all people of Israel (Jews) whether they were in Judea or not at that time.

Lk 2:34-35
Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother: “This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against, so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too.”

Paul was one of those ‘rising’.

Jesus didn’t mention Mohammed.

Paul was not Jesus’ successor. How could he be?

I think Muslims really have something against St. Paul. I don’t know what you think he did that was contrary to the message of Jesus. But if he did, why Paul? Why not accuse the whole Christian church?

Because firstly Paul never REconverted.
Hi

I had to use the expression reconverted in another sense. As I gather from another forum, that Paul was perhaps a converted Jew; he became Jew to attain some private purpose which could not be fullfilled by the Jews for their private reason, so in anguish ,retaliation and to take revenge from the Jews he is said to become a Christian or to be more specific, in my opinion, he used Jesus’ name not Jesus teachings.

Sorry, I do not like any Paul-bashing, but since it has been asked so I have mentioned it with restraint. Paul is no entity with the Muslims, as he is not mentioned in Quran. Jesus and Mary are mentioned with respect in Quran and we all Muslims love them.

I love Jesus and Mary

Thanks

**Paul was always a Jew; he didn’t “become” Jewish.

And Jesus didn’t prophesy Mahomet, either.

I confess there is no God but Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and Jesus is God incarnate!**

**** W * R * O * N * G !!!

The Koran mentioned entities it calls “Jesus” and “Mary”, but they are not the Jesus and Mary of the Bible and bear no resemblance to God Incarnate or His Mother.**

Paul reports that he was born a Jew:
I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.
-Romans 11:1
So he was not a convert to Judaism.

Hope this helps,
Paul

Paarsurrey, in another thread I asked you why you love Jesus and Mary and still I haven’t got an answer back. Will you answer the question? You keep saying you love them, yet why do you?

Hi

The account of lifes of Jesus and Mary as mentioned in Quran is so fascinating that once I learnt by heart the Chapter called Maryam ( Mary). You may read it if you like:

I read it, and I’m sorry to say I did not find it fascinating, but rather I found it superficial and poorly written like the rest of the Quran. It sounds like a story made up by an 8 year-old child.

If you want fascinating, try reading the gospels in the New Testament. They contain the true story of Jesus and Mary.

I am sorry Paarsurrey, I cannot click on your site. I only read things from Christianity, to broaden my knowledge of my faith. There are many things to read concerning my faith alone. 🙂

Maybe Aisha wrote the qu’ran???

Hi

It is OK, there is no compulsion. Since you asked me as to why I love Jesus and Mary, so I explained. Enjoy you life as a Christian, I have no objection.

Thanks

Could it be possible that some of the later revelations were attributed to her? She inspired Mohammad with some verses in their bed room and next morning Mohammad quoted them and viola - another revelation!

Hi

I think Paul first got converted to Judaism, and when he got opposed to them due to some private reason, he used Jesus name only to make a new religion, that was not Jesus’ at all, in my opinion.

Kindly read the following about Paul not being a Jew to start with. I have no claim to being a scholar myself.

Hyam Maccoby (1924-2004) was a British Jewish scholar and dramatist specializing in the study of the Jewish and Christian religious tradition.
According to Maccoby, the founding of Christianity as a religion separate from Judaism was entirely the work of Paul of Tarsus.
Maccoby claimed that Paul was a Hellenized Jewish convert or perhaps even a Gentile, coming from a background exposed to the influence of Gnosticism and the pagan mystery religions such as the Attis cult, a myth involving a life-death-rebirth deity. The mystery religions, according to Maccoby, were the dominant religious forms in the Hellenistic world of that age and so, would have strongly influenced Paul’s mythological psychology. Maccoby partially derived this theory from fragments of the writings of opponents of Ebionites, particularly in the treatise on Heresies by Epiphanius of Salamis.
Maccoby considered Paul’s claims to an orthodox Pharisaic Jewish education to be false, asserting that while many of Paul’s writings sound authentic to the uninitiated, they actually betray an ignorance of the original Hebrew scripture and the subtleties of Jewish Law[2]. Maccoby claimed that an examination of the New Testament indicates that Paul knew no Hebrew at all, and relied entirely on Greek texts that no actual Pharisee would ever use because they were not properly translated.
According to Maccoby, Paul fused the historical story of Jesus’ crucifixion with elements of contemporary mystery religions and Gnosticism, developing such new non-Judaic mythic ideas as the Trinity and the Last Supper. Paul also made an attempt to find prophetic justification for his newly created myth in the Old Testament. Paul came to present Jesus as a dying and rising savior deity similar to those from the Hellenistic mystery cults, fused with the historical pedigree of Judaism, thus giving birth to a powerful new myth whose preaching gained him a large following. As the Jerusalem group of the original disciples of Jesus gradually became aware of Paul’s teachings, bitter hostility ensued between them.

Hi

I don’t see anything wrong with the author, he is research scholar, a human being;if his argument is incorrect, provide your correct argument.

Thanks
