Why Mary?

Most everyone knows we Catholics just celebrated the Immaculate Conception of Mary yesterday. Definitely a belief which is unique to Catholics…well…I guess Muslims hold this belief too…anyways…

Here is a controversial prayer that non-Catholics will not like:
+Immaculate Heart of Mary, I put all my trust in you!+

Let me explain why this is such a great prayer:

Who did God trust with His Divine Son, Jesus? Who did the God of the Universe choose and deem worthy enough to raise the baby Jesus; to change His diapers, to breast feed Him, to teach Him to talk, to teach Him to pray?

When Jesus prays…it is based on how He learned from His Mother…Mary!

God gave everything that He is too Mary. Everything that He is resided in her womb as a fetus. If God gives Himself entirely to Mary…then I want to also! If being a Christian is about being as Christ-like as possible…then I want to be Christ-like by giving myself to Mary…my Mother…my Immaculate Mother!

God put all His trust in Mary! So too should we!!!

Why do you think Jesus learned this from Mary? What about Joseph? Would it have been more traditional to learn these things from his earthly father?

Though…I would say similar things about Joseph.

The God of the Universe humbled Himself enough to be entrusted to human hands. To be raised by humans.

I agree that Jesus must of learned from both His Father Joseph, and His Mother Mary.
Why Mary? Because She said “YES” without asking “WHY?” Except in a way of feeling unworthy of such a task.

If you have ever felt that Jesus is asking something of you, by honest, what is your first question “WHY?”
If you have been asked to do something by your mother when you were younger what did you say “WHY?”

Mary never asked “Why?” SHe simply said “I am the handmaid of the Lord, do unto me according to Your Word.”

Even Joseph needed to think about the situation, until the angel of the LORD informed him what was happening…

Obviously she did not give birth to the Trinity.

Jesus Christ = True God and True Man

Mary gave birth to True God and True Man.

He gave His Divine Son to Mary. Everything that Jesus is…was give to Mary. She als received the Holy Spirit as she was “full of the Holy Spirit”.

To give yourself to Mary is to do as God did. Then in this way you can give yourself to God in a more complete and perfect way than ever before.

I am just trying to do as Jesus did.

Everyone needs a mother. At the cross, Jesus told John that Mary was “his mother” - a symbol for becoming a mother to all believers. This is reiterated in Rev 12 when Mary appears again we read:

**"Then the dragon was angry with the woman, and went off to make war on the rest of her offspring, on those who keep the commandments of God and bear testimony to Jesus. And he stood on the sand of the sea." **

God seemed to need her…that is the way He chose to come into the world.

If that is what He chose, that had to be the best decision.

Not that God has needs…but there needed to be a best way for God to reveal Himself to the world…and this was it.

I want to be like Jesus and He chose for Himself a Mother…so too I want to share in that with Jesus!

Wouldn’t you agree that we are all “children” from a spiritual perspective? Didn’t Christ say that we must approach him like children in order to enter the kingdom of God?

As spiritual children, wouldn’t we benefit from a spiritual mother?

John was an adult when given Mary as his “mother”.

Its at least something to think about. Of this I’m confident, as many earthly mothers do, I believe Mary loves each and every one of us, even those who refuse to show her love or call her blessed.

Yes…all that she taught Him growing up (and obviously God’s Grace) allowed Him to persevere. It was, in part, how she raised Him that prepared Him for that moment.

Wonderful point!

She was still there praying for Him, just like any good mother would! She might not have been there physically…but she was definitely there spiritually! It is safe to say she did not stop praying once He grew up.

I am pretty sure those prayers were meritorious!

Mary was a vessel chosen by God to give earthly birth ( Jesus to be made incarnate) Who did the God of the Universe choose and deem worthy enough to raise the baby Jesus; to change His diapers, to breast feed Him, to teach Him to talk, to teach Him to pray? Teach him to pray? I don’t think so.

When Jesus prays…it is based on how He learned from His Mother…Mary! I don’t agree. Jesus is God in the flesh. Who would ever need to teach him to pray?

God gave everything that He is too Mary. Are you claiming that Mary was given divinity? It would appear by the behavior of Catholics that you do believe that. Everything that He is resided in her womb as a fetus. If God gives Himself entirely to Mary…then I want to also! **I cannot agree with that analogy. God chose Mary for a special purpose. We put our trust in Jesus. Nowhere in Scripture does it say anything about putting all of our trust in Mary. Your prayer I’m afraid is not Scriptural. **

It still does not change her influence and role in Christ’s life.

This is why Catholics have a devotion to the Holy Family!
Jesus, Mary and Joseph…please pray for us!
