Sorry Brian…

You’re right, I should be including this.

It still does not change her influence and role in Christ’s life.

This is why Catholics have a devotion to the Holy Family!
Jesus, Mary and Joseph…please pray for us!
I do not wish to diminish her role in his life and I appreciate your response.
Take care
BH

**I cannot agree with that analogy. God chose Mary for a special purpose. We put our trust in Jesus. Nowhere in Scripture does it say anything about putting all of our trust in Mary. Your prayer I’m afraid is not Scriptural. **
You’re right…it is Traditional!

Are you telling me that Jesus learned to pray on His own? You are saying that Mary and Joseph never prayed with Him? They must have been neglectful parents then.

I am not misled thank you! Mary led me to her Son! I know Jesus because of what she has done in my life. From her I have learned (and not to be cliche) to do as Jesus tells me.

Tell Jesus that His Mother is merely a vessel. Please, in pray, tell Jesus that all Mary was to Him was a place to come into the world…
Are you telling me Mary meant nothing to Jesus?

Yes, Mary was given Divinity…but not in the way you are trying to make it sound. Divinity was put inside of her. She was not made Divine, but she was entrusted with the Divine in her womb.

Where do you get off implying that I am saying that Mary meant nothing to Jesus? I never said that. I am merely stating that Mary was a very special woman chosen for a special purpose but Jesus is God. Do you not believe in the divinity of our Lord? He didn’t need to learn anything from anybody. He is our Lord and Savior. Let’s make this about him who deserves the highest of praise and worship. Blessed be the name of the Lord!

Hi SIA:

I certainly agree with you that we all trust in Jesus. But this doesn’t mean we can’t trust in Mary as our intercessor as well.

“Genoa, May 18, 2008 / 12:29 pm (CNA).- At a meeting with young people in the northern Italian city of Savona, Pope Benedict XVI recited the Angelus prayer with the young people and invited them to trust in Mary.”

Blessings,

Brian

Blessed be the Name of the Lord indeed!

So…when Jesus was born He was able to pray, talk, walk, dance, sing, change His own diapers?

Or…did He humble Himself so much that He put His trust in the faith of Mary and Joseph to bring Him to maturity?

Remember…the Bible tells us that Jesus grew:
“The child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom; and the favor of God was upon him.” **Luke 2:40

**Sounds to me like He was not automatically endowed with everything.

‘Give my self completely to Mary’?? For me that sounds odd, for I have already given myself completely to Jesus. Also I feel like I don’t need a mom.
Henning,

If you don’t want Virgin Mary as a Mom then you have no Brother in Jesus Christ.

For Jesus says on the Cross in** (John 19: 26, 27,) SEEING HIS MOTHER THERE WITH THE DISCIPLE WHOMED HE LOVED, JESUS SAID TO HIS MOTHER, “WOMAN, THERE IS YOUR SON.” IN TURN HE SAID TO THE DISCIPLE, THERE IS YOUR MOTHER." FROM THAT HOUR ONWARD, THE DISCIPLE TOOK HER INTO HIS CARE.**

Henning, why did Jesus Christ say this “Woman behold thy son and John behold thy Mother”?

The only ones that will not have a Mother or Father any longer in the NEXT LIFE are the ones who are condemned to hell.

And in Heaven we will have a Mother/Virgin Mary we won’t be half orphaned.

Henning, if the Disciple John LISTEND to the Words Of Jesus Christ and took Mary his Mother into his care and viseversa WHY SHOULDN’T YOU?

I trust Mary not because she is a god but because I trust her, as my Mother, to pray for me. Just as I trust all the saints and angels to pray for me when I ask for their intercession.

I trust in Jesus because he is my God and Lord. If it is His Will, He will answer my prayers, how He sees fit, and if He wishes to be glorified through Mary, than let it be.

Sia,

You are Wrong! IT IS SCRIPTUAL,

For Jesus says on the Cross in (John 19: 26, 27,) SEEING HIS MOTHER THERE WITH THE DISCIPLE WHOMED HE LOVED, JESUS SAID TO HIS MOTHER, “WOMAN, THERE IS YOUR SON.” IN TURN HE SAID TO THE DISCIPLE, THERE IS YOUR MOTHER." FROM THAT HOUR ONWARD, THE DISCIPLE TOOK HER INTO HIS CARE.

Sia, Jesus Christ Entrusted Mary to John and Entrusted John to Mary! And a few verses later Our Lord said:

(John 19: 28) AFTER THAT, JESUS, REALIZING THAT EVERTHING WAS FINISHED, SAID TO FULFILL THE SCRIPTURE, ‘‘I AM THIRSTY.’’

Sia, what was the last thing that Jesus Said RIGHT before relizing that EVERYTHING WAS FINISHED?

Sia, the answer is: it was Entrusting Mary to John and John to Mary WOW!!! In other words Jesus entrusted the WORLD’S POPULATION to His Mother Mary and Us ALL, TO HER! Amen

Sia, SO lets take Mary in to our care and let Mary take us into her care, Point is lets be like the disciple John.

I don’t agree. Jesus is God in the flesh. Who would ever need to teach him to pray?
Jesus is God, certainly. But keep in mind that he has a divine nature and a human nature. So it seems reasonable to suppose (even if the scriptures do not explicitly say so) that in his human nature he had to learn how to talk, how to pray, etc. Presumably this education came both through the public worship of the Jews and through Mary and Joseph. Quite honestly, I don’t really see why either of you (SIA and tGette, I mean) are making such a big issue about it. 🤷
Let’s make this about him who deserves the highest of praise and worship.
Amen.

We are both just trying to defend our side of the argument.
Isn’t that what the forum is for?
He made a rebuttal in light of my original post and I responded.

My point is…Jesus…in His humility…trusted human beings in raising Him, educating Him, befriending Him, etc. There is a dynamic of the various people who influenced Jesus in His humanity.

What are you trying to imply here from this? It proves nothing that you are to assert.

Hmm. Sounds very much like you deny his divinity while he was human.

Why only Mary? Why not the whole Communion of Saints past present and future?

So do you really believe that he could not have possibly knew how to pray?
A baby does not know how to do anything except exist. And that the child does not even do that.

He was raised and the environment He was raised in is reflected in who He was as a human being.

If Jesus had full power as an infant…then it takes away this being an act of humility.

So then, he had no idea at birth that he was God then.

SIA,

It occurs to me that we might be talking past each other here.

Would it make the meaning clearer if I said “Mary and Joseph taught Jesus prayers” rather than “Mary and Joseph taught Jesus how to pray”?

SIA - I do, but I know that you know the answer to this question even before posting so I’m not sure why you really asked me this.

Of course I pray (and I know you realize most Catholics pray) to and venerate all the Saints and believe in their power of intercession, but Mary stands out among all saints as especially blessed - she is the mother of our Lord and Saviour who knew no sin and whose response to the angel Gabriel’s announcement (her “yes”) led to eternal life for all believers (through the birth and then death and resurrection of our Lord and savior) whereas Eve’s (the first “woman”) action (eating of the forbidden fruit) led to our spiritual death.

Sadly, I find that many Protestants (and ex-catholics) bend over backwards to find excuses not to venerate Mary - who scripture tells us would be called blessed by all generations.

Blessings,

Brian

Forgive me for being blunt here, but I think that you may be a bit ignorant of other Protestant religions. Anglicans fully believe that Mary is foremost of all the saints. No problem there. The problem lies in what is Scriptural concerning Mary and what is not. Frankly, Scripture calls many folks blessed.
