Why Mary?

It occurs to me that we might be talking past each other here.

Would it make the meaning clearer if I said “Mary and Joseph taught Jesus prayers” rather than “Mary and Joseph taught Jesus how to pray”?

Forgive me for being blunt here, but I think that you may be a bit ignorant of other Protestant religions. Anglicans fully believe that Mary is foremost of all the saints. No problem there. The problem lies in what is Scriptural concerning Mary and what is not. Frankly, Scripture calls many folks blessed.

Scripture even calls Jesus blessed: “Blessed is the fruit of thy womb”

Mary is the only one in scripture who is the mother of our Lord. Mary is the only one in scripture who Jesus made the “mother of John” (and all believers). Mary is the only one in scripture appearing in the book of revelation and who has her offspring described as those who follow the commandments of Christ. Mary is the only one, from the earliest recorded writings of the Church referred to as the “new Eve”.

I can’t speak for you SIA as I really don’t know you (but do respect your posts - they are always thoughtful), but I do believe that many who refuse to venerate , and/or object to Catholic vernation of, Mary need to reflect on what it is that is causing them to have such an aversion to venerating her. Many say its scripture, but forgive me, I suspect there is something more to it than that in most cases.

‘Give my self completely to Mary’?? For me that sounds odd, for I have already given myself completely to Jesus. Also I feel like I don’t need a mom.

I agree with much of what you said with the exception being Revelation. I would like to very much hear a debate on it sometime. Too many things are absent from Scripture that Catholics hold as truth about Mary.

There also appears to be a simplistic tendency to believe that John is all inclusive of what was said on the cross.

The Answer is YES Jesus Christ put all his Trust in His Mother Mary, and if Jesus did then we should ALL put our Trust in Virgin Mary.
