My boyfriend is a divorced Lutheran. His former wife is Catholic and their marriage was blessed in the Church. Why is it that he, a non Catholic, must get an annulment before he and I can get married in the Church?
It’s pretty simple. If he is still validly married, regardless of his religion, he cannot be married to a second person at the same time. The annulment process can determine if the first marriage was valid or not. A marriage is presumed valid until it is proven to be otherwise.
