Sometimes when praying the Rosary in public, there are some who do not say “Amen” following the Our Father but they will say “Amen” after the other prayers. You can hear an example of this from the link posted in the thread “The Rosary” comepraytherosary.org/
I know that we do not say “Amen” after saying the Our Father during Mass because it is followed by the doxology. Does anyone know why some omit the Amen to the Our Father when prayed outside the Mass? Have any of you heard this taught somewhere not to say Amen?

I recently heard someone ask this question on Catholic Answers Live!!! & I have been wondering it too until then… But they said that the people who omit the “amen” are actually making a mistake and that we are, in fact, to conclude all our prayers with “amen.” They said that since it is omitted during the mass, it is likely that some people mistakenly feel/believe it is also appropriate to omit it while praying the rosary as well and that it is probably an honest mistake but we should be careful not to do it if we know better 🙂

Zab is correct,

In mass - because the continuance of the prayer is the doxology. But outside of mass - such as the Rosary, it Our Father should be concluded with Amen.

People may also be thinking of the Scripture passage in which the Lord teaches us how to pray to the Father. In this passage He doesn’t conclude with Amen.

People may just be putting two & two together and coming up with their own conclusions.

We must conclude our prayers with ‘Amen’?

So what of the Fatima Prayer in the Rosary? I’ve never heard anyone say ‘Amen’ after it, and have actually received some stink eye for doing so before.

You can pray to God and say Amen for each of them during and after. 🙂
