Why no Catholic outreach in Utah?

I would definitely believe the 46% stat for LDS in SLC. I hated Utah when I lived outside SLC, because of the LDS snobbery that I encountered. When I moved to SLC I began to love it, because almost no one I met here was religious at all, much less LDS. Head a tad bit south to Utah County though…

So SLC is becoming a secular oriented city - as many US cities are? Are you saying even some of the Mormons’ in SLC tend to be “jack Mormons” and not devout?

Is the LDS church concerned about a secular trend (if there is one) in SLC?

Yes, SLC is definitely a secular city. And there are a lot of “jack Mormons” here. Even some that I know that go to church weekly still do not live up to what they believe. As far as the LDS church’s concern - I do not know for sure. But, I see a lot of missionaries around in SLC, so probably. I think that the LDS church probably has great concern, but are not making that concern known, so that they don’t look bad. That’s just a guess, though.
 
Maybe the figure I heard of a drop from 75% to 70% could be statewide. SLC has a huge population relative to the rest of the state so if the LDS figure there is around 50% then the statewide figure has probably dropped too. it would have to given 2/3 of the population lives in the SLC area.
 
I am a graduate of the University of Utah. During my time there in the sixties, I attended the Cathederal of the Madiline. Not only is this considered the most beautiful building in Salt Lake City. It is a very old church. At the time I was there it was mentioned tourist publications. There were regularly scheduled tours. Catholics have been in Utah a long time. In fact, Utah was explored by the Spanish missionaries in the sixteenth century.

Yes, the 75% figure is for the entire state. Salt Lake City(not the suburb cities) itself only accounts for about 10% of the State population so it’s not a big stretch that LDS only account for 46% of that total.
 
Think. Why spend one thousand dollars per convert in Utah when you can convert one dozen in Africa for the saame price? It’s economics vs results.
 
Are the Pentecosatal churches making headway in Utah. Does Utah have its own version the the “mega-church”?
 
How conservative is the Diocese of Salt lake City? Are there some solid parishes in the area?
