Why No Revelation or Prophets in Catholicism

The first poster after I started the thread has the guts to say, with no authority at all, that God has revealed all he is going to. Is that so? Of course it is not.

Prophets generally most people do not understand because their churches do not have any.

For me, the restoration, which I submit has happened, would not be necessary, if Catholicism did not result in such reformers as Martin Luther, attempting to have again or create again, the church of Jesus Christ as it was originally established.

Yet the numerous Protestant churches are clear evidence that Catholicism did move away from the original church of Jesus Christ. For me, the restoration was necessary and Issiah, for example, prophesied, of the soon to happen restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

All those of you who say I am foolish and whatever else can certainly continue say such. I am grateful the Holy Ghost revealed to me what is the true church of Jesus Christ and why I have continued to avoid and will continue Catholicism and my friends, who are Catholics efforts to have me come back to the Roman Catholic church.
Who do you consider an authority? It is the teaching of the Church that revelation ended with the death of John. If that is not authority, I don’t know what is.

Thank you for ignoring the entire thread. You claim that the Catholic Church does not have prophets, yet we have shown you that we not only believe in continued revelation, but that we have prophets AND prophetesses, and many of our canonized saints have been prophets and prophetesses, receiving messages from God, angels, and Heavenly saints. You claim to have been formerly Catholic, do you even remember the Secrets of Fatima?

By your logic, that the Protestant churches are evidence that the Catholic Church moved away from the original church of Jesus Christ, we must then conclude that the various churches that hold Joseph Smith to be a prophet, and the Book of Mormon to be scripture (RLDS, FLDS, Strangites, Bickertonites, Temple Lot, etc. and the Salt Lake LDS) are evidence that the LDS Church has moved away from the original restored church, since all of these groups have continued (however small they may be) and claimed that they are the original restored church, and not the main salt lake church. Your argument is not logical.

God revealed all that is necessary to achieve salvation. There is nothing more to be revealed that must also be had to be saved. God does reveal other issues, that may be related to how we approach salvation, however we have always had what is necessary to be saved. That is what the poster in question is taking about.

Charismatic Catholics believe God still endows the believer with the gift of Prophecy as explained in 1 Corinthians 12-14 and mentioned many times through Acts of the Apostles. I have heard many reports of Charismatic Catholics speaking in tongues and interpreting tongues and stating prophecy that was edifying to the body of gathered believers in that prayer meeting. Just like Paul described.

I really respect you Catholics, and you guys would be surprised how much closer most Trinitarian Pentecostals are to the beliefs of Charismatic Catholics than we are to Baptists and Presbyterians.

Various saints, as stated, have given us prophecies. All I meant in my earlier posts is that Public Revelation, which must be accepted by all, ended with the death of John.

If Catholicism professes something I do not believe or see in scriptural evidence for, namely the true church of Jesus Christ, how do explain your lack of revelation or prophets?
Do not tell me that Benedict XVI is your prophet, because as far as I am concerned he is not, since the scriptures show nothing about a election of those who hold the priesthood. My key word there is election. My reading of the scriptures states nothing about the first twelve apostles being elected, so Catholics explain that.

Further, since his will, relative to his Church comes through revelation, Catholics explain why that is not in existence in the Roman Catholic church?

I could list other characteristics of the Church of Jesus Christ that Catholicism lacks — I will await your explanation of these two foundational principles.

Actually, it has both: in the Person of Christ; Who is Revelation and Prophet, and a lot more besides.

Since all that went before Him, leads up to Him, in order to be fulfilled in Him, there is no further revelation: only unfolding of the complete revelation of God in Christ. So, there is no fresh prophet, no fresh revelation, no fresh anything of that sort: because you can’t get any more final, full, complete, adequate, universal, than Christ. 🙂

YESYESYES!! Michael has hit the nail squarely on the
head :thumbsup:and he’s succinct too!😃

Does the OP want some Catholic Prophets?

OK!

St. Paul comes to mind. Or, how about the author or Revelations, St. John?

I will even say Peter (the first pope) was a prophet too, considering how in Acts he had a vision from God concerning what is “clean” and “unclean.”

There are three Catholic prophets for you:

Paul, Peter, and John.

Could you show me where in scripture this is given as the method for coming up with a prophet:

“Succession is done in an orderly fashion, with the most senior apostle becoming the new president and prophet”
Does that mean the oldest, or the one who has been an apostle longest?
