The priests in my church use these little receptacles so they can carry a small amount of the Precious Blood to dip the Body into before giving Communion. If someone would rather take Communion in thier hand, the priest does not dip the Body into the Blood. This to me seems the best way to administer Communion when compared to having a chalice to administer the Precious Blood separately from the Body. Why wouldn’t all churches choose this method? Does it have something to do with the use of eucharistic ministers instead of actual priests to give Communion?

I’d be far less inclined to take the Precious Blood if it came from a shared chalice, especially during flu season!!

We do recieve both the Body and Blood of Christ in each species. The Host is the Body and Blood of Christ and the Chalice contains both the Body and Blood of Christ.

It is only necessary to recieve the Host. That is why it should only be the priest who partakes from the cup.

This method is referred to as intinction.

There are some that have an allergy to glutton and are not able to receive the Host. You can receive either just the Host or just the Cup. I don’t see your logic why only the priest partake of the Cup.

Intinction requires the communicant to receive on the tongue.

The cup should be reserved for the clergy, as it used to be. The fullness of the Eucharist is in the Host- why should the laity be given the cup for only a minority?

There is the possible danger that some might think they don’t receive the Lord fully in one or the other Species, but I don’t see anything wrong with people taking Both if they want, if they know the truth.

Intinction is a superb practice.

It is indeed:thumbsup: 👍 and I have long wondered why the Roman Rite doesn’t routinely use it.

The Gospel injunction was “Take and Eat, Take and Drink”. To the best of my knowledge…no disciples said “I’ll pass on the wine”

I would encourage you when making these kind of statements, particularly when many who come here are inquiring on what the Church actually teaches, to distinguish between what the Church teaches, and what your own opinion is. These kind of statements create great confusion for those seeking the truth.

May God bless you!

Caesar is not far of-----The priest is the only one required to receive both species.

Code of Canon Law

vatican.va/archive/ENG1104/_INDEX.HTM

Can. 925 Holy communion is to be given under the form of bread alone, or under both species according to the norm of the liturgical laws, or even under the form of wine alone in a case of necessity.

Thank goodness----we have the Church and Her knowledge to decide such matters.
