The best way to “nudged” us is to bring scripture to our mind with proper understanding. For example, let us consider the book of Tobit. Trent has declared it to be sacred scripture, I have to admit I missied out on reading until I heard on a debate between Fr. Peter Stravinskas and James White concerning Purgatory where the question was put to Stravinskas if paying alms we could pay for our sins. His response was " You can pay now or pay later"Firstly,… don’t let you dreams fade…!
Secondly,… railing against protestants (revolutionaries) to Catholics doesn’t do anything constructive,… and doing so to protestants just makes them pissy and even the less receptive to the sense of what they’re missing by not being Catholic.
Catholics KNOW that protestants are missing out, and feel sorry for them, but they understand that they are stubborn children who can’t be nudged into a receptive position by annoying them.
Protestants KNOW that they are RIGHT, and yet are very insecure with what they KNOW to the point of having to rail against Catholics to have anything interesting to talk about.
So, what do you do?
Be a model of holiness, and let God do God’s work in God’s way.
Mahalo ke Akua…!
E pili mau na pomaikai iaoe. Aloha nui.
Of course I was quite shocked, I investigated to see if it were so.
I quote from the NAB
Tobit 4:10
Almsgiving frees one from death, and keeps one from going into the dark abode.
Douay-Rheims
4:11. For alms deliver from all sin, and from death, and will not suffer the soul to go into darkness.
I assume we are talking about spiritual death here and the “dark abode” or darkness being hell or maybe purgatory??
Even more striking is this:
Tobit 12:9 for almsgiving saves one from death and expiates every sin. Those who regularly give alms shall enjoy a full life;
Douay-Rheims
12:9. For alms delivereth from death, and the same is that which purgeth away sins, and maketh to find mercy and life everlasting.
Again, death must mean spirtiual death, but “expiates or purge sin”? I thought you guys told me that was what purgatory did.
Protestant theology has always taught it was the blood of Christ which expiated sin.
From this I gather I can write a check to cover my sins, note it says “every sin”. Please, do tell, what I must pay, purgatory is not mine, I am landing directly in heaven with this new found way of expiating sin.
