Why not the Anglican/Episcopal Church?

Thank you Peter.

That happens to be the case.

I would use the term Roman Catholic, and as anyone can see that is a widely used term even by Catholics under the Pope. Some of my greatest critics as well as some of my dearest friends will identify with the term.

But any number of people have objected to “Roman” as either too limited in scope or an inappropriate moniker to apply to other types of Catholics under the Pope. Even moreso the designation “Latin” and I can see why. I had hoped the term “Papal” with Catholic would be a satisfactory alternative, applying to every Sui Juris church and every ritual/spiritual tradition under the authority of the office of the Bishop of Rome, the “Papacy”, but It appears not to be so satisfactory after all.
I don’t agree with using the term “Papal Catholic Church”, but I think I can understand where Hesychios is coming from: some posters have recently told us not to use the term “Roman Catholic Church” to refer to all those who are in full communion with Pope Benedict XVI. Perhaps Hesychios is attempting to comply with that request.
I just simply use the term Catholic Church (with upper case Cs). I think that term adequately describes the Catholic Church. After all, it is the official title of the Catholic Church. 👍

Why NOT the Episcopal/Anglican Churches?

Here are some reasons:

1.) invalid priestly orders

2.) no authority whatsoever

3.) they allow female “priestesses”

4.) they claim to be Catholic AND Protestant? As a former Anglican, I can assure you that they’re 85% protestant and the 15% Catholic is really in liturgy only

5.) They don’t have 7 sacraments

6.) Their history stems from a king who wanted a divorce, executed wife after wife, and from a man (Thomas Cranmer) who was politically as crooked and nasty as they come (and very much a Calvinist)

7.) The Book of Common Prayer treats the Eucharist in a Calvinist sense and rails against Eucharistic piety

8.) Anglicanism is becoming globally irrelevent in the fight against secular humanism, cohabitation, homosexuality, abortion, infantacide, scientifically debauched ideas like stem cell research, a filthy media, etc. The Anglican Church goes more along with the world than against it

9.) The amount of torture and execution that took place in England during and after the Reformation toward Catholics and especially Catholic priests is APPAULING. The “mayhem” of the Catholic Queen Mary Tudor pales in comparison with the amount of death and ransacking of beautiful churches that took place by the Anglicans

10.) Anglicanism stands mostly for whatever the individual parishoner wants, not what Christ wants. An Anglican can just believe what ever floats his boat, no theology, no catechism, no hangups man!

11.) Anglicanism is coming apart at the seams. GAFCON vs. Lambeth. What a mess!

12.) One Anglican High Church will believe in Eucharistic Adoration on one block complete with incense, benediction, and piety. On another Anglican church (low church) literally two blocks away, they throw the Eucharist to the birds in the park after ‘Mass’ because they believe the Host is just symbolic. How in God’s name can two such crazily different ‘churches’ be in the same denomination??

13.) There is no clerical order, no excommunication, no real unity of bishops so to speak

14.) They believe they are justified through faith alone according to the BOCP

15.) Pope Leo XIII declared the Anglican orders “null and void” which, from a Catholic point of view, makes it a moot point

Because the Anglican religion - along with all other religions, save Catholicism- is a path to damnation.

My sister is Episcoplian, I have attended funeral services at a Episcopal Church. But after talking with my sister in length regarding Anglican theology, well no direspect but they seem "confused’ they have more questions than answers. I will say one thing for them they sure are a friendly lot. 🙂
They are a friendly lot. That’s what drew me to Anglicanism not once but twice. They’ll do anything for each other, always wear a smile, and are some of the neatest people you’ll meet. But I have also noticed a marked hostility to authority among them, a huge dislike for the papacy, rampant liberalism, acceptance toward homosexuality and female clerics, and they seem to have no real unity whatsoever.

Sounds like a complete menu for self-destruct. We need to pray for them.

Back in my Episcopalian days, I thought the sort-of “big tent” philosophy of the Episcopal/Anglican church was very cool.

As I matured I realized that when you are trying to be “all things to all people” you actually wind up being nothing to anyone. They seem to not stand for anything because they’re so busy standing for everything.

And so I’m a Catholic now and happy to have “come home”.

Thanks Carl! 🙂 (which is also my Daddy’s & brother’s name!)
I LOVE hearing about people taking the swim in the Tiber!!! SOme people say its just the newness for me, and it will wear off. Is ure hope not.

Just the opposite. The Holy Spirit keeps calling me to do more. And so I heed the call. And it just makes everything so much better. It just gets better if you ask me.

Our Priest said something very thought provoking, yet very simple, in his homily today. He remarked on how people, himself included, are forever making resolutions, lots of them, to be better. And yet we often fail to achieve any of them. So he said, for Advent, choose just one thing to do that will make you a better Christian, and just one thing to stop doing that will make you a better Christian. Just do those two things. Well we can all do ONE thing or stop doing ONE thing.

I’ve made my choices! Now lets see what happens. Congratulations Carl on your own journey!

And, as always, reminding the world that there are Anglicans who fit in this mold, and those who do not.
