Why not to get into an intellectual debate with the devil during an exorcism

Is it pride to want to know what and why you believe something rather than blindly believe it because that is “faith”. Greatest to convince people to believe something that make no sense

There’s no “debate” to be had with a demon. They made an irrevocable choice to rebel. We have no power to change their minds, but just as other people can influence us, so can Satan.

It’s a pointless battle to begin with, and a dangerous one.

You would have an easier time debating a cat on why it shouldn’t eat the tuna you put in front of it. It is in the devil’s nature to lie and manipulate. No sense making yourself an equal to the devil and debate him fairly, as he will never play fair in the first place.

Let’s humor you for a minute, let’s say an exorcist did stoop to the devil’s level and had a debate and won. Would the devil change his mind and repent?
No he wouldn’t. He has one goal, to (vainly) try to surpass and overthrow God.

The best way to prove the devil wrong is to declare Jesus is LORD, and as an exorcist cast him back into the depths of hell and deliver the victim into the loving arms of God almighty.

You are wasting your time trying to debate with the demon. He is a lot smarter than you and he is a liar.

The older we get, the more we know. The angels have seen it ALL, from our creation and fall, to our current existence. There can be no comparison in our intellegence levels. As an adult can manipulate a child using wisdom and life experiences, so too can a demon manipulate a human. There is nothing to gain trying to debate a demon, yet there is everything to gain by casting them out.

The priest is there for one reason, to free someone’s soul not to engage in intellectual triumphalism. The person is in need of help not as a conduit for personal satisfaction in a fruitless debate.

Peace and God Bless

From my experience “based on” films are not accurate, the fictionalization for the screen is quite elaborate.

As far as books go, the priests I know say the book “The Rite” (NOT the film version) is the most accurate book in print.

Yes it is based off of real events. Anneliese Michel is the girl that Emily Rose is based off of. Spoiler alert
it doesn’t have a happy ending

It’s a spritual practice for those who want to practice the virtue. If you want to learn more go ahead, but we’re talking about debating with the devil here, so what you’re saying doesn’t apply.

devils have infused knowledge and know everything and can make the best arguments unlike we mortals who have to toil with getting “college degrees” in just one field and still struggle to make an argument for even one cause. may the lord rebuke the devils and keep us from debating with them.

Does that mean the devil’s arguments against the faith make more sense and are more reasonable than the teachings of Christ and the Church?
No. It means that it is not a good idea for any person, with their limited memory and knowledge, to attempt to debate with a demon of far superior capabilities. If, perhaps, the demon were to write out their arguments, then a group of Catholic apologists could think and study and thoroughly debunk them. Likewise, an angel could debate with a demon. But one man is simply not an intellectual match for a spirit like a demon.
The teachings do not fall short, the person does.

No it just mean that his intelligence is greater than ours and he will deceive us easily. See what happened at the Garden way back when.
If one underestimates him we will fall pray to his cunning and persuasive sweet talk.
Plus there is no point in trying to convince him! According to him he is right and GOD is wrong. Period end of story.

Why should a Christian seek the truth from demons? Haven’t we the Holy Spirit? He is our teacher, not Satan. Christ didn’t want demons acknowledging Him as the son of God, so why should a Christian enter into conversation with them?

God’s intellect is far superior to the devil’s, angels’ or any human intellect.

Why would anyone want to argue with the devil? During an exorcism, the goal is to get rid of him, not debate him.
