I think my biggest reason for ceasing my involvement with the Catholic Church, and my reluctance to join any other, is that organized religion inevitably is a flawed system of spiritual progress.

People involved in churches and church organisations always succumb to the ordinary evils of bureaurocracy. They hold positions of power that is in their personal self interest to protect. They do this in usual ways, such as squelching their opposition, securing their power base, creating political alliances.

Of course, the Catholic Church, with it’s size and hierarchy, has one of the most strongly established traditions of political intrigue that permeates the culture of its institutions.

Many current religions, including Chrisitianity and its varying sects, originally sprang up in opposition to the organized religion of the day. Buddhaism arose out the corruption of Hinduism, Christianity out of that of the Jews, Protestantism was a response to the failings of the Catholic Church, and some of the newer forms of Chrisitanity sprang from stagnant Mainline Protestant Churches.

All religions form around a strong leader and wants to aspire to form a community that adheres to its founding ideals. They inevitably, though, succumb to the same failures and corruptions across the board, losing their founding ideals and becoming just another manmade bureaurocracy mainly interested in maintaining itsself, even at the expense of truly serving God.

Whatever…

If you chose to “sweat the small stuff” and lost sight of what was most important… again, “whatever”…

If you try hard enough you can justify just about anything…😦

Giving the response “Whatever” is dismissive and sounds like something my teenage daughter might say, with a heavy, disrespectful sigh and roll of the eyes.

It’s not the mature, well thought out response of a spritually mature adult.

My apologies… but I do tire of people who write almost never-ending diatribes to justify their actions…as if they expect all others to fall into rank and file in agreement with them. Yes, it was somewhat dismissive.

Sorry you don’t think well of me…but I am what I am, and I am human and even I tire of “people rationalizing their actions vis a vis copious amounts of bovine feces”.

Another less than erudite post.

Why do you bother to respond at all?

Ahhh - this is where you will have to convince me.

Where have we changed Jesus’ teachings?

I wonder that myself…but wouldn’t the bigger question be: Why did the OP post what he did…?

Judge me if thou must… but you missed the point I was making.

Seeking God as a sincere individual and attempting to live correctly is a worthy path, in my opinion.
Why would you not? Profile= “unaffiliated”

While what you say may be a “worthy path” in its essence, is part of that path …posting a negative diatribe of justification? Seems to me it would have been far easier to just go and do whatever…the OP planned to do.

Are you one of these people who believes that you have the mind of God and all that…and you are all it takes and you have all the answers?

Forgive my “cynicism”…but been here, done that before, had to retread the shoes.

But where do you get the info on what living correctly is?

Seeking the truth is indeed a worthy path. I encourage all to seek the truth knowing that if they pursue it with openness they will find the fullness of truth in the Catholic Church.

Where have we changed Jesus’ teachings?
I maintain that we can serve Christ effectively without the smothering bureaurocracy of the Roman Catholic Church. I assert that the structure of the Church often interferes with the original message of Jesus, of which one aspect was to simplify spiritual life away from the strangulating edicts and mandates of Judaism and the corruption of the Pharisees…

I think it is within the rules and purpose of this forum to open up a dialogue regarding the topic of non-Catholic religion.

To serve effectively is to serve as the Master wishes. The Master wishes we follow the church He founded for the very purpose of serving Him in a way that we gain eternal life.

So where have we changes Jesus’ teachings?
The Roman Catholic Church has become a bureaurocracy of the highest order and has been for centuries. It could be argued that this has diverged from the teachings of Jesus which sought to simplify spiritual life away from this type of thing. This is because, when humans create organizations, political intrigue ensues, with all it’s inherent flaws. Jesus understood this.

my question is: are you troubled by the organized religion or the confusion of religions among christianity?
