Hi,

Should we always pray through Mary?
The answer is “No.” We may pray directly to God.

Why do Catholics pray to Mary? Why not pray straight to God?
Thank you for your time,
Confused Protestant teen.
This is more like something to think about than answer to your two questions.

Just like you would feel more comfortable being friends with someone that has the same interest with you, than someone you felt you were forced to like. Think of it in the same way. You know deep down inside you have love for Jesus, and you can imagine Mary must also, right? There you have the same interest in common. And you know Jesus has you at heart, and you can imagine whatever Jesus has at heart Mary cares about too. So you have someone who has the same interest, and cares about you, Mary.

Think of an analogy in terms of facebook. Say you have this spiritual facebook page, but you can only befriend one person. So you think, and decided you’ll pick Jesus. Jesus accepts your request, Mary sees Jesus accepts your requests and she sends out one to you and before you know it you have all these request from saints to be your friend on this spiritual facebook page.

When a person ask Mary to prayer for his or her intentions, he or she is recognizing
something Jesus knew all along that His Mother is praying for you along.
