Why pray with a Ten bead rosary?

Hi , why do some people pray with the ten bead rosary and not the full one ?
Which do you prefer ?
Are there any dis/advantages ?
Which is better ?

Neither is better or worse. They are both tools to prayer. One might carry a single decade rosary (the ten bead one) for the purpose of something like praying while running, being discreet to pray the rosary in public, having a smaler rosary just because they like it, etc. I prefer a 5 decade rosary. A “full rosary” is actually 15-20 decades (depending on if you prefer to include the luminous mysteries). I don’t think I’d ever carry one of those.
 
I have a ten bead rosary is just a decade of the 20 decades of the rosary. I use my decade rosary to hold and pray while driving so I don’t have to hold a huge chaplet rosary.
 
I have a full rosary I use under normal circumstances.
I have a 10-bead rosary I use when I’m traveling.
Often it’s just nice to have it in the pocket to remind me to pray something-- a rosary, a Divine Mercy chaplet, or something that doesn’t require beads at all.

I received my first 10-bead Rosary as a gift, and I like to carry it around so that when I have some time to pray in a public place or while I walk, I may do so modestly, in the spirit of Matthew 6:1. It is also nice for shorter prayers (ex. only 1 decade of the Rosary).

For community prayers where the full 50 beads are used, the short Rosary may shift my attention from the meditation to the instrument, thus I use the large one.

The best one is the one that for some reason or another makes your prayer more edifying!
 
My 10 bead Rosary fits easily in the pocket of my work pants and I can use it discreetly during slow times at work.

On my other hand, I just use my fingers to count one though five to keep track of the mysteries.
 
My main rosary has ten beads and I keep it in my pocket every day. I take public transportation and my schedule has me walking between stations six times a day so my prayer is spread out with the opening prayers and five mysteries taking place during those walks. The ten bead rosary is ideal for that and doesn’t dangle too far down or snag things as I pass by. Even if you pray the whole thing at one time, it isn’t too difficult to keep track of which mystery you are on.

Fingers are good, too, but a small rosary with crucifix dangling from the hand also becomes a visible witness to those you pass by and can be a form of evangelism. And it explains why you are talking (or better yet singing) quietly to yourself, and shows you are not just a crazy person.
 
I have a 10 bead rosary that I keep in my car. It actually fits nicely over my gear shifter.

I can easily pick it up, say a rosary while I am driving, and put it back without looking or distractions ( or no more so that normal gear shifting)

If it was was ‘full’ rosary, I would either be dragging on the floor, or I would have to keep in the glove compartment. That would be problematic to use while driving.
 
I pray with a ten-bead Rosary ring because it fits perfectly in my change pocket (that weird pocket inside my right pocket). I’ve kept it in there for a few years now
 
A ten bead one is easier for me to use when I’m walking through the neighborhood during my daily exercise.

I actually use my fingers a lot. I get a 1 hour lunch break at work and I like to pray the rosary then, while walking in a nearby cemetery. But I kept forgetting to bring my rosary beads or a lot of times, when I did, I would lose my place while walking (trying to move my fingers up a bead while walking sometimes resulted in the rosary slipping between my fingers). So I just started using my fingers, folding them after each Hail Mary.

People don’t look at me like I am a crazy person though. I think they assume I am talking on a handsfree earpiece or something most of the people walking around are talking on those things (and you can’t see my ears because of all my hair).
 
I have a 10 bead rosary bracelet that I wear almost every day. This way I always have it on me if I get the desire to pray the Rosary or a chaplet.
 
I love the 10 bead rosary rings. Because they are rather inexpensive, I like to purchase a handful to give to friends and family. I think it is great way to introduce others to start praying the rosary without overwhelming them.
 
I love using the 10-bead ring just due to ease of use in daily life, and also when I put my hand in my pocket, I’ll feel it and then it reminds me to just pray a quick decade while grocery shopping, walking, etc. Sometimes I forget that I can pray all day long and so that helps me out.

Otherwise, I use my “full” rosary (5 decades); that way I don’t have to remember what mystery I’m on or what decade of the divine mercy chaplet I’m on.
 
Personally I seldom pray the rosary alone, but I enjoy it in groups. For Christmas 2011 I received a keyring rosary for a stocking stuffer. I had it blessed and I retain it as an emergency backup if I ever forget my full rosary. I seldom do, though, it is the first thing in my pocket along with house key and wallet. I take great comfort in having such a powerful sacramental close at hand, regardless of how rarely I use it 👍
 
Hey there
I actually have a ten bead rosary bracelet, that i like to wear when im going out. I think its just brilliant to have because i could be anywhere, and get the urge to say the rosary and i can just take it off and start praying then and there. For example, i used to do it alot on the bus/train ride home when i was at uni, and when i was in high school i used to walk home from school and id say it while i was walking. They can be really good in situations like that. 🙂

In days gone by in Ireland, when Catholicism was frowned on by the English, and rosaries banned, people used ‘tenners’ in their pockets, or rosary rings with knobbles around the rim, or even French knots embroidered around a hankie or an apron edge.
