According to who? The early church did not adhere to only 66 books.Um… Luther was around in the 1500s. The KJV was assembled in the 1600s. So, you might want to get a few facts straight.
Furthermore, the apocrypha has always been viewed as “Deuterocanon”, or second canon, with less importance with respect to doctrine (its use is devotional), so there isn’t a problem with skipping over them.
