I’ve heard people describe becoming Christian as “conversion”.

Muslims who are not born or raised Muslim refer to themselves as “reverts”.

Does anyone know what that difference is? What does one mean by “revert”?

in Christ

Catholic’s sometimes refer to themselves as “reverts” because they were once Catholic, fell away from the fullness of the faith and have come back home to the Church after spending time away. We refer to all of us “Coming Home” who have left and have come to relize and accept the Catholic faith as authentically Mother of all Christian faiths - including Eastern Orthodoxy in that we believe they left us - not the other way around.

I have read this on Islamic sites. Yes, they told me as a first time poster I could simply “revert” even though I told them nothing to think that was my intention.
Then I got banned for asking why Jesus did not take a wife, or multiple wives.🤷 But, that his Bride is the Church.

**Hello,

The answer is simple. 🙂

God created mankind. He created man with a sense of awareness.

When an individual is born, that individual is born already knowing of the awareness of a Creator. Thus, in saying this, meaning, the ONE GOD. This is the belief he/she is born with, but it is the parents, family, friends, others, who misguide them into other beliefs and disbelief.

Thus reverting means to revert back, to go back to the original state we were born into, knowing the awareness of the One Creator.

In Arabi, it is known as “fitra”

I am a revert! I was born Catholic - left - then I came back. Therefore I am a revert to the Catholic Church.

**Hello,

lol Catholicism . God taught messengers the Oneness of God…not pope’s superiority, forgiveness from priests, intermediaries and the like, Just ONE GOD. Those who teach from the church are not exactly teaching monotheism are they? 🙂

That is utter rubbish. Christianity is about God’s love and peace. There is only One Saviour in Christianity - God. You know absolutely nothing about Catholicism.

God taught us to love thy neighbour. Islam emphasizes on helping the Muslim first, before attending to people of other faiths if they are in danger. Christianity does not place Christians first or last in that sense. Everyone is loved, and equal in God’s eyes. There is no discrimination in Christianity. Unlike Islam, which even has separate tents for Muslim pilgrims in Mecca that is according to race and nationality.

Sort of like becoming Mormon post mortem, just at the opposite end.

How apropos for simplistic thinking.😛

it’s called something else in English.😛

You’re the one bowing to an empty box five times a day and traveling thousands of miles to it to kiss a rock. Even, according to your sources, Umar couldn’t explain such idolatry.

Where’s the oneness of God in that?

To answer your question, the Vatican teaches it is the authoritative speaker for God unlike your ‘ulama’ who can’t agree on practically anything. How are your ‘ulama’ and a’immah/imams not intermediataries? How is your prophet not?

Personally, I refer to myself as a convert to Islam because the word “revert” has negative connotations to me;… though I think I might be in the minority. It’s simply a semantic issue, I think. And Islam doesn’t teach that people are born Muslim but actually that they are born on a fitra which Americanrevert explained. And that answer is correct–that a person upon “converting” to Islam, is “reverting” to the fitrah.

Aww… don’t you wish you had Islam?

You really sound like you wish you had a religion as wonderful and comprehensive and practical and sensible as Islam. 🙂
Reminds me of the hadith where the pagans taunt the Muslims by saying that without out Muhammad they wouldn’t know how to wipe their behinds, to which the Muslims reply “yes and he teaches up many useful things.” (for those who don’t know, this is just the tip, or should I say butt, of discussions of the kind in Islamic law).

When you own the movie, who buys the pirated CD?

This reminds me of Surat al-Mutaffifeen.

I don’t really understand your question about pirated CDs.

I misunderstand, do you mean Muslims that are converting to Christianity are reverts?
I see my journey as more of a completion.

There is a copyright on a CD, and a pirate is one, who usually robs a ship, who takes from another. And goes to the other land and sells it like it is his and he markets it on the black market like he got it legally, I think this is the idea.

LOL

Yeah I know what a pirate is. I even know what a pirated CD is.

I don’t see how the question has anything to do with anything in this thread though. Pirated CDs and wiping one’s butt and divine revelation? I just can’t make the connection…

Is he suggesting that I make illegal copies of movies or something?

I think his analogy is that Christianity is the original DVD, whereas Islam is the pirated copy (with Arabic subtitles!).

I’ll just add that the copy is also far inferior to the genuine article, at least in the Middle East.
