More the latter, that FAIR and other LDS apologetic material got me thinking that there was something in the LDS temple ordinances that wasn’t in Catholicism, and that had some sort of valid ancient origin, that Joseph Smith “couldn’t have known” (as the thinking goes). In actually experiencing these ordinances, and reading the material, I think much of the relationship is exaggerated. I still laugh at how a poster at MDDB talked about how St. Cyril’s description of an anointing ritual (i.e. Chrismation) had similarity in the words used as compared to the LDS Initiatory, that it was “virtually word perfect”. No it isn’t.Thanks, but what I’m asking is, did you have this expectation as a Catholic, before your conversion to Mormonism? Or was it FAIR and other LDS apologetic material that got you to thinking that Mormonism had something in their temple rites/ordinances, that was not in Catholicism?
