I would like proof that Jesus Christ really did exist. The Bible seems like more of a fairy tale to me. I feel that somebody just sat down and wrote stories. How do I know that the story of Jesus Christ isn’t just a story? I would like an answer that doesn’t include “because the Bible says so.”

How do you know the story of Julius Caesar isn’t just a fairy tale some ancient Roman wrote down? Or what about the story of Antony and Cleopatra? Wasn’t that just a play written over a millennium later by some English playwright? How do we know that really happened?

The point here is that you should apply to the Gospels the same tests you apply to other ancient historical narratives. If they meet the same standards of authenticity, accept them as authentic. If you are able to accept them as authentic historical documents, then you can decide whether or not you’ll choose to accept the truths they teach about Jesus Christ.
