Why should I get an alb?

What about wearing an alb in other public places?
What is your purpose? Why would you wear one when no one else around you is doing so?

Honestly, if I saw someone wearing one sitting in the pews, it would appear they are hoping to receive some kind of attention.

“Oh I don’t know, let’s do some research when we get home”

Well yeah because both, in public, can start conversations. And conversations lead to conversions.
Unless you lead people to think you’re a nutjob.

Better to follow what Paul says in Galatians: For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ (Gal 3:27). Of course living up to that kind of clothing is much more difficult.

(Person does research and finds no evidence that lay Catholics wear albs)

“Huh. Maybe that guy was just a loon. Anyway, back to PlayStation.”

This is fun, it’s like some kind of mad lib.

(Anyway, don’t wear an alb. That’s like varsity level weird and it isn’t going to spark curiosity. It’s just going to make you look like an eccentric attention seeker.)

I wear my short shorts and let the ladies know what’s up.

Shorts with crocks. A perfect outfit to attract a traditional woman

For any man trying to find the (rare) traditional woman, he is to wear crocs + short. I just cracked the code.

If you were wearing an alb in church in the pews, and not serving, then people would think you were really strange or worse.
I saw a guy at a daily Mass in a grey alb that had a rope tied around it with two knots on one end and one knot on the other. In his case I just assumed he was part of an order or similar thing.

But if I was sitting by someone in an alb who wasn’t part of an order (it’d have to come up in conversation eventually) I would think it was odd.

I agree…but I think it’s usually pretty easy to see the difference between someone wearing a religious habit and an alb, isn’t it?

Then you need to go back and study church teachings on the subject of humility.

@unitive_mystic: I think they meant you to wear the alb at your baptism and only your baptism. It was a ceremonial garment to mark the occasion.

If you’re just looking for a way to display your faith publicly (and I believe that can be evangelizing), Amazon has many options. Here’s one I wear. It’s soft and warm.

I’ve muted all response notifications. Less temptation to respond in anger to flamers that way. Have a nice day!

That’s nice! And there are others out there on the web that are even more direct that say Catholic, or have saints or other Catholic themes.

No alb.

“Oh I don’t know, let’s do some research when we get home”
So they do the research, realize it’s not common practice, and then think that you’re the oddball - and are still pushed away from Catholicism as a whole because of one person.

Yeah. It happens.

If you do a quick Google search of “Catholic shirt” (modify for desired clothing) you’ll find a lot of stuff. The problem isn’t finding it, but narrowing it down.
