I really don’t understand why Our Lady of Fatima wants Russia in particular.

What about Russian Catholics isn’t that pretty biased.

Just wondering what good will the consecration actually do? There will always be conflicts because of our nature and sinfulness.

Why not the West?

Sorry for my skepticism, I just don’t see the reason why we have be all like come on Holy Father Consecrate Russia already to just about every single pope since the apparitions.

I just don’t understand the whole Russia thing… Russia has a good amount of Christians, and religious freedom now. It’s demonized by the Western media, but Russia is nowhere near as bad as Middle Eastern countries. Shouldn’t we be consecrating Saudi Arabia and Iran?

There have been a number of discussion threads here on the subject. Even though I believe that the apparitions and messages of Fatima are true, they are private revelation and not a part of the Deposit of the Faith.

Our Lady while on earth and today in heaven submits Herself to the Will of God, and the Church. If she made a request and the Pope has decided that it has been fulfilled or defers fulfilling it according to a private revelation, Mary is still a member of the Mystical Body of Christ and obedient. Our Lady would not argue with our Lord or His Vicar, but as a perfect example of conformity to God’s will supplants Her desires for the Lawful authority given to the Pope to bind and loose in heaven and earth. She is the perfect example of supplanting her own will and magnifying the Will of God.

at the time of Our lady of Fatima’s appearance, Russia was in the midst of a Revolution, where the tsar was overthrown and his family executed. This resulted in a Communistic country which lasted for over 70 years. Mary warned that Russia would spread her errors…and SHE DID (Vietnam, China, North Korea, Cuba, any other country?)

I don’t know of any other special reason, but the main reason was probably to stop the spread of Communism, which is usually atheistic in nature.

At the time of Fatima, 1917, Russia seemed like no threat to anyone. She had been defeated by Germany in World War I and was forced to beg for a degrading peace settlement. Our Lady of Fatima foresaw the Communist revolution and that the Communists would become the biggest threat to the world and to the Church.

We don’t have to be like that, because:
(a) it’s a private revelation, and therefore Catholics are not required to believe in it; and
(b) Sister Lucia said the consecration has already been made and accepted by Heaven.

So, relax! 😃

👍 Thats it entirely. It must be understood in the onslaught and subsequent collapse of militant atheism aka marxism ].

And I think that the ecumenical outreach of things like Vat-II and onward must be understood in the lens not of Catholic/Protestant as much as Catholic/Orthodox. Fifty years ago today the Pope and the Patriarch embraced in Jerusalem the Anathemas were lifted. We now state that the easts sacraments are valid but at the same time constrained to our own Catholic organization. The simple statement that their sacraments are valid is huge. Now this year Pope Francis and Patriarch Bartholomew again meet in Jerusalem. The Pan orthodox council is set to convene and Bartholomew has stated that one of the council topics will be changing its relation with non orthodox churches. Francis speaks of Unity as a “miracle” and it would truly take a miracle to bring unity. But the Church is a belief in Miracles.

Perhaps Russia and the East will soon play a part in the conversion of the West …

I can dream, I can hope, I can pray. Who knows if it will or won’t happen but it would be wonderful if it did.

Absolutely. 🙂

Anything beyond that is potentially dangerous speculation; some have already made a shipwreck of their faith by doing so. 😦

It wasn’t so much about communism but what communism brings which is atheism.

Remember under the atheist rule churches were destroyed and priests murdered.

But 1917 and today are very different times, China is the worst but they weren’t exactly Christian to begin with.

Russia is mentioned in St. Faustina’s diary of the Divine Mercy too.

818 December 16, [1936]. I have offered this day for Russia. I have offered all my sufferings and prayers for that poor country. After Holy Communion, Jesus said to me, I cannot suffer that country any longer. Do not tie my hands, My daughter. I understood that if it had not been for the prayers of souls that are pleasing to God, that whole nation would have already been reduced to nothingness. Oh, how I suffer for that nation which has banished God from its borders!

We should all be praying for the countries of the world.

There are some very devout people in Russia now, it is a very different place to Lenin’s and Stalin’s Russia.

I’d wager because the consecration of Russia will bring about the end of the Schism.

I think more than anything with the original question its that Our Lady knew what Russia was going to be doing, including what is happening right now with Russia in Crimea.

But beyond that, I think its also the insight she had into the cold war of the last century, and the revolution. Millions lost their lives. In addition countries like China, Cuba, Venezuela, are all communist nations today as a result of Marxism. Had it not been for Marxism, they would not have become the nations that they are.

I can understand why she would not want communism to spread, but as someone else mentioned, all the middle eastern countries have far worse plans than communism, most would impose Sharia law on the US and anywhere else they could, so it seems like consecrating these countries today would be a much greater priority than Russia.

If Sharia law spreads, we are all in trouble!!

True, but Russia is a Christian country. I’m sure that makes all the difference in terms of the meaning of the consecration.

I don’t see Crimea as being a problem, if you compare to what happened over the last century.

Losing Orthodox Christians to atheism is worse than muslims staying muslim.

The Russians used to be very devout, they used to come together in cities to pray against invasions even going back to the Mongols.

True, as the situation is right now, its not nearly as bad in comparison. But the key phrase is right now. The Fatima prophecy did speak of the annihilation of entire nations followed by an era of peace. While the iron curtain resulted in some nations being temporarily dissolved, it did not see any permanent annihilation. We have also yet to see an era of peace as there has been terrorism, war, and moral decline throughout the world since the collapse of the Berlin wall. If that element of Fatima has yet to come to pass, than its possible that this situation may go beyond Crimea. It has the potential to go very sour, especially with a nation that like the Germans after world war I has been crushed economically.

I suppose it depends on what peace means.

In regards to my country or Europe things have been pretty peaceful in comparison to the two world wars and all the other conflicts that we have been involved in other time. If however we mean a world peace without any war than maybe there needs to be a larger war although with nuclear weapons I don’t see anyone having a war with Russia unless Ukraine want to fight them. I personally think that Crimea has ended, will Ukraine try to take it back? Will any other nation try to take it from Russia? I don’t think so.

I think the third secret of Fatima is the one we need to focus on, I think the consecration of Russia is past, if it had happened in say 1920 than the world would have been a different place, maybe there would have been no non-aggression pact with Germany and Russia would have attacked Germany in 1939 and war would have been over quicker or maybe Germany wouldn’t have invaded Poland if Russia had of been against Germany.

Who knows?
