Why so many "gay marriage" posts?

Gosh, 155 replies to my initial silly post. No offense, but get a life, people. Why in the world is so much time and energy spent on this ridiculous issue? Gay civil marriage will hurt absolutely no one. With the time used by Lisa N, Libero, Fix, et al, people who actually are hurting could have been helped. Let go of the computers and the polemics, folks. With all that extra time, we could actually do Jesus’ work! We could volunteer at a homeless shelter! Or coordinate a coat drive! Or visit the sick and lonely! Or pray to God, thanking Him that we are not gay!

My initial post was an expression of my disbelief over how much time is spent on such a silly topic, in this Catholic message board. My Jesus and my Catholic church are about caring for the sick and meek and lonely and oppressed and destitute and poor. To my Jesus, whether or not two dudes should be allowed to get a piece of paper from the government saying they’re “married” is a non-issue. There are so many other things we as Catholics should get up in arms about. So much time is wasted on this board about this dumb topic. I’m going off to coordinate a coat drive now.

Thanks for the wisdom! I am new here and became bumfuzzled over posters who preached against Catholic teaching. I’m very glad to see that regular posters on this site know how to take these odd folks with a grain of salt.

This is the old why-do-this-when-you-should-be-doing-that ploy. False dilemma. You assume the following:
  1. that these discussions serve no beneficial purpose;
  2. that these discussions are the only gig in town.
Wrong on both counts.

Yet you ignored my invite to post on issues that were important to you, and, the last I looked, you also ignored my invite to join in the Rosary with us for the victims of the bombing in London. :tsktsk:

If you believe so much time is wasted - why did you waste so much time starting this thread?

Thanks Norbert. It’s scary strange, isn’t it. People of a faith that is supposed to give “preference to the poor” are obsessed with gay men’s groins. Check around the posts here. Not much on helping out poor folks. Nothing about supporting and expanding welfare so poor mothers with kids can eat and live half way decently. Little on tithing. Nothing on responsible uses of money – either privately or publicly. And absolutely nothing about a certain war in Iraq that Pope John Paul II had a lot to say about.

Basically, lots on sex issues, nothing on wallet issues. Very different from the Bible with its endless messages about the poor but folks here read it very selectively. Cuz we’re American catholics (capitalization deliberate).

American catholics worship a god who hates abortion almost as much as capital gains tax. Because taxes steal from the rich and give to the undeserving poor. Taxes also pay for armored transports for US soldiers when a few extra American deaths per month is more cost effective. American catholics believe god helps those who help themselves. American catholics believe wealth is god-given to the hard working, morally deserving and those who practice shady business practices. That the “rich man and the eye of a needle” lesson of Jesus is, well, defunct. American catholics believe (like conservative protestants) that good works are for losers. Tithing is dropping 10 bucks when passing the collection plate. American catholics believe gay marriage, gay rights, gay voting, and gay TV destroy western civilization. American catholics ignore what the late pope said about global wealth inequality, dangers of rampant materialism, environmental damage to the planet, and rising inter-ethnic hatred. American catholics obsess about other people’s crotches. American catholics think their wallets and finances are earned, deserved, and nobody’s business. Including their god’s. Didn’t Jesus talk something about whitewashed tombs? Impressive outside but rotting within?

But Catholic Americans are cool. Folks who have a clue that a faith that spoke some 2000 years to different civilizations is more than early 21st century american sound bite politics. Preference for the poor and all of that. Centuries of learned speculation and thought about “blessed are the meek.” “blessed are the peace makers” “blessed are the poor” Not a damn thing about capital gains tax.

It is very obvious that the only ones obsessed wih gay males’ groins on this site are those who incessantly challenge our benevolent Church teachings.

That’s bull! Maybe you ought to look. “Absolutely nothing on a certain war in Iraq”??? There are multiple threads on that war.

And as for obsession…you and your friend norbert ought to look at alot of the replies. They are not all from people who believe that homosexuality is wrong. When someone posts a question or a comment, the polite thing to do is respond, which is what most were doing. So, these posters responded to norbert and others and now they are obsessed? Geez, there’s no reasoning with some people.
