As long as there are Protestants and Catholics there will be disagreements. We simply do not believe all of the same things. Moreover, each side feels compelled by the gospel to spread the Good News as they know it. This includes evangelizing one another. The unfortunate thing is that one’s religious views are deeply held and therefore much emotion can become attached to each person’s perspective.
ALLFORHIM has made an important point concerning dialogues grounded in charity. When one of our brothers or sisters in Christ is rude or insulting we must not return the same to them. Likewise, if we happen to offend them, even in a small inadvertant/unintentional way, we must be prepared to immediately apologize.
Christianity and the Good News are grounded in charity. The love of Christ must be within us and we must let the love of Christ shine through us. That light must shine from one Catholic to another as well as from the Catholic to the non-Catholic. Likewise, the non-Catholic Christian must also let the love of Christ within them shine through and overshadow everything else. If we do this we have a much better chance of understanding one another and winning souls for Christ.
Honest and forth right dialogue can point out differences without being mean spirited or uncharitable. This is not always easy but we do have some extraordinary examples of people on this forum that manage to do just that. We are all a work in progress. May the grace and peace of the Lord propel us forward in charity.
