Why so much hatred by Non-Catholic "Christians"?

Ah let’'s see I went to Bishop Kearney HS-Bay Ridge right? Then I went to Midwood HS for a semester before I got shipped out here.

I could’ve said I was from St. Thomas Aquinas, but then there’s 2 in Bklyn-the other being in Park Slope? 😉
I graduated from Ft. Hamilton high school. Not familiar with Bishop Kearney… The Catholic highs I knew were Bishop Ford Central and Xaverian. We went to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church over on 3rd Ave 🙂

DH is from Midwood.

Davey & Goliath. 👍

You’ll be homesick for Brooklyn for the duration. Back in his youth, they didn’t tell you what neigborhood they were from (Sheepshead Bay, Park Slope, Bay Ridge), they said they were from St. Augustine’s, St. Patrick’s, St. Rose . . .
Yeah…although, you know, Brooklyn is better now than when I was growing up there. When I was six and seven you did NOT go into Prospect Park, because even the bears were packing heat. So I can’t say I miss that part about it. Williamsburgh is still a rough place.

Like all of NY, PARTS of Williamsburg are rough. I don’t leave the Myrtle Street Apartments after dark unless I’m in a group and the Taxi is waiting…the Taylor-Wythe buildings…I’ll watch myself, but 2 or 3 AM is still not too bad to take a stroll along Lee…especially on Friday nights…all the Jews are still up and about at that time. Broadway itself…not too bad in a group, but I’d hate to look like a tourist there after dark (yeah, what would a tourist be doing on Broadway and Marcy at midnight…other than hitting the McDonalds).

Is there a particular denom that preaches anti-Catholicism more than others? I’m just curious.

There were a lot of former Catholics on that forum too. Majority of them said that they finally read the bible for themselves & concluded that the Church was wrong. 🤷 & that’s why they left.
Seventh Day Adventists

I think you’re right, and in any event, I have never encountered ANY stripe of Lutheran wher blind-stupid ignorance was the ruling factor. Lutherans are usually well enough educated to have read a little real history.
I appreciate your kind words there, mercy. We do try. Firstly, we accept the Catholic Church as a fellow Christian communion. While we certainly consider it unorthodox we don’t consider Catholics to be “mission-work,” as do many other sects, fanatics, and sacramentarians. Why try to convert the choir? While we certainly will engage in topics like justification in order to reach agreement on the Lutheran Confessions we don’t consider it conversion. Catholics were converted in their Baptism. We certainly can’t outdo that!

Secondly, most of the sects that are anti-Catholic are equally anti-Lutheran! (And anti-anything other than what they believe in) “Ya’ll do that baby dunkin’, wafer eaten, icon-usin, and ritual type stuff like them thar catlics!”

My best friend of 17 years is Lutheran. Your post made me giggle. Years ago she tried to get me to go to her church. She’d say to me “Ya know Lutherans are just one notch below Catholics”. Then I asked, Who’s below Lutherans? She came back with Methodist. I waited for her to continue on, but she had no idea who came next. 😉

Calvinists, and then Baptists, definately 😃

Bah, below Catholics, fooey; we have less guilt, more satisfaction, muhahaha.

By the way, that reminds me. Did anyone else comment on or notice that Archbishop Raymond Burke was promoted to head the Apostolic Signatura?

I say congratulations to the man, but for crying out loud did the Vatican have to take THE most brilliant, orthodox, and faithful bishop in the United States OUT of the country??? Blah!

We HAVE a joint statement on Justification!

But I’ll quibble with you on saying that the loony anti-Catholics are equally anti-Lutheran. That may be objectively true. But y’all don’t hear yourselves called the Whore of Babylon, the Antichrist, and the Woman Who Rides the Beast. I’ll give ya points on “empty rituals” and “baby dunkin’”

I guess they had to do something to make up for putting Cardinal Levada at the head of the CDF. I *ask *you.

We HAVE a joint statement on Justification!
The problem with the joint statement on justification is that it doesn’t resolve the issue! The Roman side of the arrangement didn’t budge an inch off of what is laid out in the Canons of Trent (nor could they, in good conscience, do so). The Lutheran side was represented by the Lutheran World Federation which is in full communion with denominations that deny the Trinity, for crying out loud! They don’t even hold a confessional position on justification and are more concerned with left-wing social causes.

So for them to represent the Lutheran position on justification would be equivalent to the Baptists representing Anheiser-Busch in a liquor dispute.

That’s true, certainly. That’s because the fundamentalist Baptists are more afraid of us after what the Lutheran princes did to the Anabaptist rebels in Germany 😃

haha…some Catholic friends of mine complained about the Levada appointment, though I am not familiar with his positions.

there is a tv station called ABN (Angel Broadcasting Network) that is put out by the 7th day adventists. my ears almost closed up on themselves when i heard a preacher going on and on about how the Catholic Church was evil and the Pope was the anti-Christ! he said he could prove it with his bible.:banghead:

he didn’t use his valuable air time to promote his own distorted beliefs. no, the goal was to take down the Catholic Church.

sometimes it is hard to unlearn what you have been taught, but if these fundamentalists truly believe the Catholic Church is evil, then why don’t they convert to the Orthodox Church?

What I find sad is that these people waste so much of their time here on Earth spewing this garbage. It’s really an obsession. Is this what Jesus wants us to do? I think not. How about, feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, & so on. I don’t know.

Maybe b/c the Catholic Church is always in the limelight? 🤷
No offense towards the Orthodox btw.

can someone provide a link on what the SDA history is?
thanks in advance

No kidding; How many independent fundamentalist orphanages do you see around?

Living in the limelight the universal church for those who wish to search…sorry, 80s flashback.

Here’s a good history of 7th Day Adventist history and doctrine

The hoot is that fundamentalists don’t consider Seventh Day Adventists to be fundamentalists.

Of course, fundamentalists truly believing the Catholic Church to be evil can’t convert to the Orthodox Church or any other high church because they are too catholicky, after all a skunk by any other name . . .

Silly me went searching around the web & came across a non-Cathlic forum. Why I did this I do not know. Just curious I guess.

Anyway I have never seen so much hate towards the Church in my life! There was a thread about the comments made by Bill Maher about Pope Benedict & there were “Christians” there agreeing with him.

There’s so many threads about Catholicism, & all the lies, hate & just plain ignorance was astounding. I literally felt like I was punched in the stomach just reading this stuff. I would never in my wildest dreams ever tell someone they’re the devil’s spawn as I saw someone say there.

Could someone please explain to me why? Is it just ignorance?

Anyway Thank God for CAF. I know there are heated debates whatnot here, but never the pure hate that I saw there between so-called “Christians”
Because the Catholic Church is founded on Jesus Christ. His Church teachings is not base on opinion polls. People like Bill Maher are ignorant of the Catholic Church, nor they know enough what she truly teaches. The world in fact hates the Church because it hates Jesus.
