Why so much hatred by Non-Catholic "Christians"?

In quite a few places in the Gospels and elswhere reference is often made regarding demonic spirits not to mention that The Devil is roaming around seeing who he can destroy. Seems these days we want to blame all this Catholic bashing simply on peoples ignorance etc. What Church do you suppose the Devil would want to trash at any cost??? Think about it.

Silly me went searching around the web & came across a non-Cathlic forum. Why I did this I do not know. Just curious I guess.

Anyway I have never seen so much hate towards the Church in my life! There was a thread about the comments made by Bill Maher about Pope Benedict & there were “Christians” there agreeing with him.

There’s so many threads about Catholicism, & all the lies, hate & just plain ignorance was astounding. I literally felt like I was punched in the stomach just reading this stuff. I would never in my wildest dreams ever tell someone they’re the devil’s spawn as I saw someone say there.

Could someone please explain to me why? Is it just ignorance?

Anyway Thank God for CAF. I know there are heated debates whatnot here, but never the pure hate that I saw there between so-called “Christians”

I believe it goes all the way back to the Refomation.

For the first fifteen hundred years, Christians believed in the Catholic faith. Then came Luther & the Reformers with new way think thinks about things and to leave the Church that stood for 1,500 years. If Luther & the Reformers said “Hey, we know that there are many sincere, godly Catholics, but we think we have something better here. So how about leaving those Catholics and follow us”. If that was their message, I don’t think would have left the Church to follow them. The only way they would give up 1,500 years of Christianity was if they were convinced that Catholcism was not just wrong, it was demonic. That it why Luther called the CC the Whore of Babylon and the pope was the anti-Christ.

I am myself a revert. I was scared away from the CC by being told it was of the devil. And for quite a whle I held to that debield because I was afraid the CC was right.

To paraphrase Chesterton, when a person stops hating the CC then they will start being attracted to it.

I think that many Protestants hate the CC because they are afraid of the possibiity that it might be right.

Because non-Catholics are told that they are not Catholic because of their own desires. That they are going to hell because their non-Catholic. Non-Catholics are told that their religion is a lie. If you tell Catholics why you don’t believe what they believe then it becomes an issue of Anti-Catholic.

I think that many Protestants hate the CC because they are afraid of the possibiity that it might be right.

I came to that same conclusion myself… after exploring other possibilities.

If it is true, they have to make serious changes and that is uncomfortable, to say the least.

But Jesus is all about changes, most of them pretty uncomfortable.

The CC is no position to complain - it is getting a taste of what it handed out to Protestants, & others, when it had the power to do so.​

The Church deserves all the hate it gets - & more. If it doesn’t want to be hated, it shouldn’t burn, murder, massacre, slander, persecute & imprison those whose descendants may not like what the CC did to their ancestors. We today are paying for the evil done by centuries of Popes, priests & other Catholics.

The real wonder is that there is so little Christian hatred of the CC, & that relations with others are so healthy. In a just world, the CC would have a much harder time of it.

JWs. Some of the big radio evangelists have web sites with a one-layer click to the “false religon” of the Catholic Church. Then, of course there are the out and out lunatics whose profession is “evangelizing” Catholics.

How is that any more “lunatic” than Catholic efforts to do the same to Protestants ? When “truth” is the reason both give for treating the other like dirt, it’s become an idol, & a God-substitute.​

The Prots did a lot of burning and massacuring (sp?) and imprisoning themselves. But in any case it all happened several hundred years ago and it’s about time everybody got over it. Besides that is merely an excuse not a reason.

The Church is hated by the Prots for the same reason that Christ was hated by the Jews.

Jesus said you will hated by all because of Him… and when he said ALL he wasn’t exaggerating…

also… most people have a false version of Church history… The Church didn’t burn anyone… Maybe certain members did (BIG maybe) but i don’t know of any pope who condoned it… In almost all cases, what happened was that The Church examined someone and then stated whether the person ws a heretic or not. it was then the STATE that passed sentence - and usually that meant putting people to death. Many times priest & bishops interceded for the condemned person to try to spare his/her life… But of course, you aren’t going to hear that version of history in the usual places of “learning”…
