Married couples receive over 1000 benefits that couples who are not married do not receive. (there are lists available on Google) Heterosexual couples get married every single day outside of Churches for a variety of reasons, churches have been denying those couples marriage for years. Gay people know that, and don’t understand why they have to follow the teachings of religions that they don’t even belong to. I don’t want to see a law passed telling me I have to follow the tenets of an evangelical faith, or worse yet-a Non-Christian faith that gets a majority in my city or state. Why would I want to set that precedent by passing a law that has as it’s only basis “My Church says so”?Do you have any suggestions? I’m a sinner but by the Grace of God, have not fallen too far. I had no problem working with homosexual persons or dating the formerly bisexual young lady who gave her life to Christ.
I did have a problem when I saw same-sex marriage on the ballot at my State voting booth. Who needs my permission to live how they want? Nobody. But why was my permission asked for at all?
There are people around the world, right now, who don’t care one bit what anyone else thinks about what they’re doing or how they’re living. But the moment it’s on the ballot, the honest question is why?

and before we start the procreation argument yet again-marriage OUTSIDE the church is not based on procreation. People who can’t or have no intention of having children get married every single day and there’s no movement by the church to stop that.
and before we start the “we can’t change the rules” argument-marriage has been changed many, many, many times over history. Women are no longer property, men have one wife now and marriage contracts aren’t about land anymore. Reading a little history eliminates that argument pretty fast.
Now, I have made a commitment to the church, and I will never have a partner again. For me, no civil law is necessary to obey the teachings of my faith. Why should it be for anyone else?
