Why are some people always committing mortal sins despite effort to eradicate them while others don’t?

Why do some always commit sins of impurity (the most severe of all mortal sins) while others only commit mortal sins of less severity?

Mortal sins are all severe, and all of them can be forgiven if you go for confession.

I’ve personally never heard of one mortal sin being worse than the other. I could be wrong.

But to answer your question in general

Some people fall into lust more easily than others. Some use porn as a coping mechanism. When they feel stressed, when they feel sad, bored, there are guys who turn to porn if they are angry at women etc. They turn to porn/lust. People who have more appropriate coping mechanisms won’t fall into it as easily as others.

And like most unhealthy coping mechanisms, it is difficult to stop.
My coping mechanism used to be cutting, it took me 3-4 years to stop. Even now I still get urges to do it. I believe it is the same thing for people who turn to porn or masturbation.

Some people simply have more will power than others, too.

Also, you can never be too sure that there are people who don’t commit mortal sins, especially lust. They choose to not tell people, and if they do it, they go to confession and try their hardest. Don’t compare yourself, we are all sinners lol. Focus on being as holy as possible. People do slip up. That’s why confession exist

I don’t really know how any of us would be aware of anyone else’s sins, unless they decide to share them with us, and unless they know/are aware of what type of sin they are committing.

I agree with the last part of Lea’s post. We shouldn’t compare ourselves to anyone else. We should be the best person that we can be.

Everyone sins. I don’t actually know of anyone that doesn’t sin in some way, and I don’t mean that in a way that is judgmental of anyone else. I know that I’m a sinner, too.

I have no, ZERO, ZILCH, NADA desire to quit smoking,

if I were like many people I might half heartedly join the bandwagon and pretend even to myself that I do want to quit too.

Truth is I am just doing what I really want to do when I smoke.

I give a minor leeway in there for intro level, like if I totally wanted to quit I might take a couple months.

Same with sin, if someone is sinning galore 4 years later un slowed… their true self is that person

Why do you think “sins of impurity” are “the most severe of all mortal sins?” I have read moral theologians who argue that because of how humans’ sex drives are wired, sexual sins are not only common, but some of them are of a significantly lesser degree of culpability. Why do you think that, to pick the example you may be alluding to, masturbation is worse than murder? Worse than abortion?

Pride is probably the worst… Even purity doesn’t make the soul as beautiful if it is not humble.

We all have a predominant fault. Some are more visible than others. Some have learned earlier to fight it. Some start a good Christian life earlier and some later. Some are tempted more to receive more merit.

Don’t despair. Each soul can glorify God. If you struggle with sins, you can glorify God’s Mercy and His grace as you fight the sins. You need to fight bravely and with trust and you can grow in holiness that way. If you have many temptations, fighting them can give a special merit that maybe others won’t have. Each soul will have something beautiful and unique in Heaven even if on earth it seems some have it easier. Plus we don’t know, some have very hidden trials.

The very thing that is so frustrating now (weakness, amount of temptation) can be used by God in such a way as to lead to a great joy in Heaven. That is how God defeats evil. For example, it can lead you to a great trust in God’s Mercy, a reliance on Him, and great love for Him as you say no to temptation even when its frequent. If you feel little and weak, you can glorify God greatly by letting Him act, because then it would be apparent it is His action… Like how St Paul said he glories in his infirmities. Maybe the little way of St Therese is for you.

Try to rely on God’s strength not your own, and try your best to fight the sins in your life, remember God is always there to assist you in the struggle. If you struggle with impurity, turn to prayer right away, run from the temptation instead of facing it directly. God bless you

And many spiritual writers and theologians posit that the temptation to lust is oftentimes to help combat pride, since lust is a perversion of more base, animalistic desires, and that to be afflicted thus reminds us of our station in the order of things.

Yes mortal sins have levels of severity,

Murder or suicide is the worst because the soul who dies loses all the years they would have lived,

Next worst to murder is the commandment for purity according to the saints.
Our Lady of Fatima said 97% of souls in Hell are there for impurity (so basically, there would only be 3% of those Souls in Hell if those Souls had lived chastity according to their states in life. )

In God’s eyes, occult and new age are the same as spiritual adultery, leaving Jesus the Bridegroom for false gods or devil worship.

Each sin has its own gravity and circumstances individual to the situation also

Someone raised in a good neighborhood is less likely to commit murder than someone raised in a broken home in a crime infested neighborhood. Someone raised to value money above all is more likely to steal or embezzle or commit usury than someone raised to value human life above all.

You do not really know if someone has mortally sinned or not. They have to have full knowledge and full consent to commit a sin. We are all sinners in some degree. Some people are more put together than others or sin less. I do not think the sin of impurity is the worse. Failing to love your neighbor as yourself is and failing to love God thoroughly. Sure some sins are scandalous and warrant harsher punishment or stain a person’s reputation. Our sins are between us and God.

Because mortal sins are often the result of vices, and vices are habits that are both wounds and something which holds tight to us.

The only way to overcome a vice is to form the alternate virtue, which is also a habit.

Also: because people might very well make an effort to do this or that, but it is absolutely impossible to accomplish anything in the spiritual life without God’s gracious assistance and our cooperation, and many things have to be accomplished by Him alone. Giving ourselves over to Him and relinquishing control is not an easy thing to do, and it can require time.

Yet another thing to consider is that God might very well permit a person to continue to experience temptations because temptations can have a spiritual benefit that otherwise couldn’t be achieved. In the case of sins against the sixth and ninth commandment: lots of people want to develop chastity, but then get confused when they have temptations, and wonder why God doesn’t remove them. Well, chastity is a virtue, a good habit. How can it be formed if one never practices it?

Actually murder is graver than impurity.

But we all struggle with strong temptations to sin. A saint committing a small sin can be viewed as graver than a sinner struggling with weakness or habitual sin. Also some “sheep” are really wolves underneath. People aren’t always what they seem.

Those who tell you they never commit any mortal sins at all are probably lying or deluded.

And impurity is not the most severe of mortal sins. The most severe of mortal sins are sins against directly God, such as blasphemy and sacrilege.
