Here we go again, seems that the Church is getting thumped wherever it turns.
I am hoping that there will be an uproar within the church to route out all evil.
Name them and shame them I say. Get the homos out the pedophiles and all that are heretics that are shaming our Church.
Why the abuse on little children i would never know , from clergy , shame on them shame shame shame!
Evil will not be tolerated, Jesus will prevail!
Hold you breathe; this is what happens when you have a form of theocracy and Israel is our example we are told to learn from. There will need to be an entire cultural change from the top down, so do not hold your breathe because this is nothing new and has been continual for centuries, the side of history no one ever wants to speak of for obvious reasons and no so obvious reasons. It is why Jesus taught us that his church is made of individuals whom He has chosen, called the elect, and the elect are not visible only a local church building is visible, but looking at a religious person a man cannot tell if he is a person of God or of the evil one; you will know them by their fruits, but the hope is that no one knows when the HS will move in to the life of any individual, which collectively is the church that Christ has been building till the fullness of the gentiles has come and I believe it is very near, very.

God bless and i wish you all the best.

There are 42,271 priests in america and the precentage of them involved in this is less than 5 %. that is 5% to many but ypu can not condem them all. This means that 95% are not involed.
Actually, it is much smaller than that. Last year there were exactly 6 verified cases. That’s 0.0000142, not even close to 0.001 %
**Sex Abuse by Teachers Said Worse Than Catholic Church **
Jon E. Dougherty, Newsmax
**Monday, Apr. 05, 2004 **

between 6 percent and 10 percent of public school children across the country have been sexually abuse. Charol Shakeshaft, the Hofstra University scholar who prepared the report, said the number of abuse cases could be much higher.

Such figures led her to contend "the physical sexual abuse of students in schools is likely more than 100 times the abuse by priests.
actually it’s more like 10/0.0000142 or 70451 times higher
and I would venture a guess that there is as many if not more woemen working in the schools.
Excellent point.

BTW, could you please post a link to that info, I would like to keep it for future reference.

I apoligize to you and anyone else that may have been offended. That was not my intent. Nor do I question the seriousness of and trauma of molestation. Now I do not know how to respond without further offence.
First of all I will say that as a child I had and adult pin me to the floor and pull my pants off. I will not go any further but to say I do not believe I was molested by him, and 35 years ago when it happened no one thought anything about it. I could have this 70 year old man today put in jail for something that to him was no more that teaseing of a kid. Did it bother my when it happened? And it still does I was violated. It also effected the trust I had in my parents as they were in the house when it happened, and I still say I was not molested.

Do I do have some insight into what I was saying.
First of all, it’s your life. No one and especially not people on an Internet message board has the right to interpret your life experiences for you. If you choose to consider it violation but not molestation, that is your choice. There is another possibility which is that it is more appropriately understood as physical abuse (b/c he trapped you) in addition to, or instead of, sexual abuse. Without the details which are not of my business, it’s not possible for me to say, nor is it my place to.

There are different definitions of sexual abuse and some of them don’t involve touch, but rather looking at the person in sexually explicit ways. That’s not necessarily the same as molestation. I’m not saying that to split hairs but b/c you made a distinction.

The decision to report someone is a difficult one and what I found when I went to a detective years later (b/c no one listened to me at the time and I tried hard to tell them) was that the events were old and there was nothing they could do about it. Unfortunately times were different then. Awareness was much lower and I was surrounded by people who for their own selfish/self-absorbed reasons listened to what I said (or pretended to) and then decided not to believe me or do anything about it.

The priest who abused me is in jail for abusing someone else, however. So some justice was done.

I’m sorry that this damaged your relationship with your parents. I think that does happen often, unfortunately, when children are treated badly, however you label it. It’s hard knowing that parents for whatever reason could not stop it.

If a man or woman has such a disposition to abuse children, how is putting them in a marriage, where they will have even greater and more intimate access to children going to help?

Well, I do hope that Jesus prevails rather than the OP.
I doubt he’d otherize homosexuals or call them “homos.”
I’m pretty suire he’d eat with them and ordain them and encourage them to marry and have lots of sex and adopt kids. he was loving and Jewish, so why not?

Homosexuals are not pedophiles. Linking them is shameful. And might just deserve a spankin’ 😊

The Church is not the victim of pedophiles, but it is an instituion that ha sunwittingly created a horde of them by failing to provide the kind of envrionment in priestly formation for people to develop psycho-sexually in an appropriate manner as a result of laughably horrific attitudes toward sex.

I don’t have the stats, but I think there are fewer pedophiles and cases of abuse among younger priests. This is because they entered the seminary process later (not at 12), are more broadly educated rather than indoctrinated, more considered in their choice of vocation, in many cases have had (umarried!) sex lives before they entered seminary, and in many cases continue to have straight and gay sex lives in “semenary” and after ordination. Someday many will marry, and even eventually gay-marry. Then pedophiles in the church will be few, and probably less then in the general population.

Until then, brace yourselves.

The Church deserves an enormous and sustained thumping. And a new Pope who doesn’t have his head in a tight dark place.

Out with bigots. Jesus will prevail!

I want to thank the person who first put this out on the forum for this very important topic. It is obvious as I read back through all the postings that catholics are deeply disturbed about the abuse by clergy and we feel obviously ‘let down’ by those who should be shining examples of piety. I think it is a topic which SHOULD stay in our minds as it is everyone’s responsibility to protect those that are the most vulnerable. The sad fact is that sexual abuse of minor children is rampant in our society. As believers and followers of Christ, we must do what we can to stop this if we suspect it is happening anywhere.

I think the Church has done a terrific job in the U.S. to train all volunteers and clergy on the signs of sexual abuse as well as teaching us all how to avoid situations that can lead to inappropriate behavior in a pastoral setting. The church is now turning all cases of abuse by volunteers and clergy to the civil authorities and letting them investigate as is required by law. These are important and appropriate steps to stop this crisis in its tracks. We must be mindful that as we hear about these abuses, that they often refer to cases that go back decades and involve a handful of priests that abused many children. Horrible… true, but the great and vast majority of our clergy are good, honest, caring men who mentor us in our journey with Jesus.

As members of Christ’s body, we need to work TOGETHER to make this situation right, not only in our church, but in society at large. Let catholics lead the way to reform as we’ve done with so many other issues of abuse of power in ages past. WE are the solution and I would urge catholics of conscience to pray, pray, pray about this and ask the Lord to help us as we weed out any lingering sickness in our clergy.

My heart and prayers especially go out to the victims of this crime. I hope you find the peace and happiness that you so deserve. God Bless You All. And to the priests that have been accused in error or falsely ( Like Cardinal Bernadine of Chicago was) God Bless You Too!!
