The Scriptures are certainly useful for this.Thank you for trying to be reasonable.
jmcrae I know the bible to be true. How do I know? It came at an moment in time when I was at a crossroads do I accept God and the bible and specifically the God of the bible or do I search for answers somewhere else. At that moment in time God opened up one of the scripture stories to me and the answer to my question became clear as they never had been. Since then God has used scripture to lead and guide me.
It isn’t necessary that the Bible say this, because the same Authority that told us that the Bible can be relied upon (the Bishops of the Catholic Church, and more specifically the Catholic Pope), also told us about Mary’s perpetual virginity. If the Bishops are right about the Bible, then how could they not be right about the Virgin Mary? Since it is the same Holy Spirit who caused them to know both of these items of information, along with everything else that we believe in.I dont see Marion doctrines in scripture, yes I have read all those Catholics claim. For me it doesnt matter whether Mary was a perpetual virgin.
The only reason we know the Bible is true is because the Bishops of the Catholic Church have told us that it is.
But if we don’t believe the Bishops, then we have no basis for believing that the Bible is true - the fact that we learn things from it is not proof, since we can learn things from many other books, also. The fact that it appears to claim to be Inspired by God is also not proof, since the Book of Mormon, the Qu’ran, and many other books appear to claim to have been inspired by God, as well.
But, to believe the Bishops on this one thing, but then to throw out the rest of their teachings, seems irrational. Don’t you think?
