Why the Holy Mother?

Okay that pretty much helps so thank everyone!
The only problem I have now is
Why didnt the Old Testament Israelites pray for intercession to Moses, Noah, Abraham Issac, etc. etc. after they died?

They weren’t face-to-face with God yet. Ref: Nicene Creed (“descended to the dead”).

And, why is it we can only pray to the canonized?

You could pray to whoever you please, but we can only be sure that the canonized are face-to-face with God. If you’re praying to the damned, your prayers aren’t really doing much…

And why can’t we pray to Moses, Noah Abraham Issac etc. right now too?

Who says you can’t?

I pray to the Holy Mother, because sometimes I’m still a little girl inside and I want to talk to my Mommy. I get…I guess God’s (name removed by moderator)ut through a mom’s voice and perspective. With my own mom, it passes through human filters, as do all human earthly conversations. It’s a whole different relationship in a lot of ways. And my mom is very godly. Just sometimes I want my “perfect Mommy.”

You absolutely can! The Latin Church tradition doesn’t give the title of Saint to the figures from the Old Testament who aren’t Angels, but it recognizes that they are in fact Saints. We tend to refer to them as the Patriarchs, IIRC. At least some Eastern Catholic traditions, however, do give the title Saint to folks like Moses and Abraham. It’s not a difference in belief, just a difference in how they are titled.

The Patriarchs and Prophets walk with God, most especially Moses and Elijah who appeared with Christ at the Transfiguration. Not only can they be prayed to, you’d be good to “say hi” to them once and awhile, IMO.

There are many saints that have not been canonized (A majority, I hope ). Canonization just means that they have been put on the liturgical calendar of the Church. A canonized saint is a saint that the Universal Church is called to devotion because of their exemplary lifestyle. You could ask the patriarchs to pray for you. The Jews didn’t ask them to pray for them because Heaven was not open and when people died they went to Abraham’s bosom.
