Why was the Resurrection needed? Didn’t Jesus’ dying on the cross redeem the world?

Not til he conquered death. Jesus had to prove to others that He was more powerful than Satan and so He showed that Satan had no hold on Him, even in death.

The resurrection was always intended. Had our first parents not sinned they would have been taken to heaven at the end of their lives (not death just the end of their alloted time on Earth) and been given new bodies. So the resurrection was necessary to show that all the gifts of our first parents could be restored.

Paul explains:

1 Cor 15:12-26

12 But if Christ is preached as raised from the dead, how can some among you say there is no resurrection of the dead?
13 If there is no resurrection of the dead, then neither has Christ been raised.
14 And if Christ has not been raised, then empty (too) is our preaching; empty, too, your faith.
15 Then we are also false witnesses to God, because we testified against God that he raised Christ, whom he did not raise if in fact the dead are not raised.
16 For if the dead are not raised, neither has Christ been raised,
17 and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is vain; you are still in your sins.
18 Then those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished.
19 If for this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are the most pitiable people of all.
20 But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.
21 For since death came through a human being, the resurrection of the dead came also through a human being.
22 For just as in Adam all die, so too in Christ shall all be brought to life,
23 but each one in proper order: Christ the firstfruits; then, at his coming, those who belong to Christ;
2 then comes the end, when he hands over the kingdom to his God and Father, when he has destroyed every sovereignty and every authority and power.
25 For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.
26 The last enemy to be destroyed is death.

Resurrections are recurring themes in different religions all over the world. It’s only appropriate, I suppose.

Would anyone have believed Jesus was divine if He hadn’t risen? Jesus is God He went throuh a very painful death for us. He is Human and divine. Two natures. the Son of God and the Son of Mary.
Praise His holy name.

God bless,

What other resurrections are you talking about? I have only heard of one. See MT. 28 🙂

Do you believe those other resurrections to be real? I doubt I’d care much about Christianity if not for the promise and demonstration of eternal life.

I doubt I’d care much about religion, in general, if not for the many similarities they have toward each other.

The Resurrection was necessary because Jesus is the Resurrection. If there is no resurrection of the body, than neither is Jesus risen, and, if Jesus is not risen, than neither is there a resurrection of the body.

Furthermore, by dying Jesus has saved us from evil, and by rising, He has given us life.

And strictly speaking, the Author of Life cannot remain dead.

If you don’t mind my asking, why does it matter whether or not they have any similarities?

To me, religion is one of the most amazing systems that man has ever come up with. The eternal, human desire to worship such a Higher Being has spawned countless religions–many with similar concepts and values.

I’m just the type of person who is in awe of it all.

‘Dying You destroyed our death
Rising You restored our life …’

His resurrection is OUR resurrection - without Him as the firstfruits, none of us could rise again on the Last Day.
