Why was Catholic philosophy based on pagan philosophy?

I just bought this book today, written by the near-death doctor, Eben Alexander. Early in the book he talks about Plato and Aristotle. On page 6, he says “There is much argument about how much or how little the mystery religions informed the attitudes of Jesus and the first Christians. The rite of baptism is shared with the mysteries, along with the concept of a God (or goddess) who dies and comes back to life, and in doing so, redeems the world.”…

There are similarities between mythology and Christianity. How can we be certain Christianity wasn’t copied from mythology?
