Why was Jesus so sad in the garden of Gethsemene?

Perhaps someone could help me understand a little better. When Jesus was praying in the garden of Gethsemene prior to him being arrested, it was said that he was in agony and great sadness. However, as the Son of God surely he would have known that his sacrifice would save mankind from eternal damnation wouldn’t he? Why then was he in such agony and in a saddened state? Was he in doubt?

In His human nature Jesus was fully human The prospect of enduring such agony was highly distressing to Him as it would be to any human being. His suffering was both physical AND mental. In the garden His mental anxiety was so great that He actually sweated blood. All through His passion the physical and the mental played off of each other, increasing His suffering immensely.
