Why was the Confiteor changed? Should it have been?

That’s a reasonable point. I was however just focusing on the meaning of the prayer.

I like calling on saints by name. I liked when the priest used to reel off the names in the Roman Canon during Eucharistic Prayer I too.
But I understand they help us even when we just call on them as a group.

The Roman Canon ( Eucharistic Prayer 1) is probably the most beautiful of all of the Eucharistic Prayers. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with having a preference. The issue I think the creators of the Novus Ordo had with it being the only Eucharistic Prayer is that it was really focused only on Rome. For example, the saints named of course were very amazing saints, however many would argue many saints of greater significance to the Churches history are left out and a couple we aren’t even positive were real or legendary. All were locally from Rome. The prayers 2-4 came from study of different liturgies. Prayer 2 I believe is based off of the Anaphora of Apostolic Tradition, prayer 3 is Antiochene with elements of Alexandrian and Roman influences. Prayer 4 is very much based off the Liturgy of eastern Byzantium rites especially that of St. Basil the Great.
I think it’s cool to have diversity. The Roman Canon is my favorite. And unfortunately I feel many priests overuse or only use prayer 2 because it may save a minute or 2. Which is a horrifying reason if that’s the case but I can’t think of any other reason.

It’s all recorded in the history books.
But I don’t believe all that’s recorded in the history books .
Yep. Verify EVERYTHING 🙂👍

My experience was similar to yours. As an Evangelical coming to Catholicism, the run of the mill Ordinary Form, without chant or incense or Latin, felt mysterious and ancient.

When traditionalists talk about “Protestants” in this context they mean the liturgical Lutherans of Europe. This is still the focus of ecumenism for much of the Church. When the German Bishops recently proposed inter-communion between Catholics and Protestants married to Catholics, its those same Lutherans they have in mind…

And yes, objectively speaking, the Ordinary Form of the Mass and Lutheran Liturgy are quite similar in terms of texts and structure.

I have a friend who is EFree. Her opinion of Catholic Masses is that they are waaay too liturgical and entirely foreign to her way of worship.

I notice how people have a tendency to toss out “dog whistles” like Novus Ordo.

It’s certainly used as a pejorative around here.

I think you meant to direct this to the user Saxum. I haven’t said anything regarding the SSPX nor have I said anything negative about the Novus Ordo. I am a lector and an extraordinary minister of the eucharist in the OF. Why would I bash it? I was simply stating historical quotes that were said before the mass was propagated. If you don’t believe me go look it up. It’s not some conspiracy.
