Morality steers a person to the good. A commandment is oriented to the good of the person. The ultimate good of the human being is union with God. So the commandments have God as their end. They are not prohibitions for the sake of limiting freedom.

God creates good and gives human beings the ability to freely choose the good. The commandments steer Adam and Eve to God.The LORD God commanded the man, saying, “From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; 17but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die.”
