Why Wolfowitz should depart now
Published: April 22 2007 22:01 | Last updated: April 22 2007 22:01

If Paul Wolfowitz remains head of the World Bank, he will preside over a rudderless hulk. That is today’s inconvenient truth. The US has always had the prerogative of nominating the president of the bank. But this privilege carries with it a big responsibility. Exercising that responsibility now requires acceptance of an immediate change in the bank’s top leadership.

Actually, Wolfowitz should stay at the World Bank and shine the light of exposure on corruption.

I read that George Soros is trying to oust Wolfowitz in order to get one of his cronies in there.

If that is indeed the case, Pres. Bush cannot allow Wolfowitz to be forced out.

Wolfowitz isn’t perfect but he’s better than having Soros run the World Bank by proxy.

When I was younger, I had no interest in the people who ran these various agencies and organizations.

But as I got older, I began to focus on the “resumes” of some of these folks. In a couple of cases I even had run-ins with some of them.

So, all of a sudden, it has meaning to me when I read that someone who massively screwed up the Oil for Food Program claims a clean bill of (fiscal) health and is being push forward for a major position at the World Bank or some other agency with deep pockets.

QUANGO … Quasi Non Governmental Organization … that’s what I read that they call these organizations. Funded up to the gills with billions of dollars and staffed up with basically anonymous bureaucrats who by international agreement get tax-free salaries and benefits. And results don’t matter.

Wolfowitz wants to expose the corruption and ineffectual efforts.

But don’t you think it is ironic to be talking about Wolfowitz cleaning up corruption at the World Bank, when he himself appears to be well, corrupt? I mean the situation with his girlfriend just seems to be so black and white unethical. How can we trust someone to manage a bank responsible for providing funding to impoverished nations when he can’t keep his own affairs above board and in order?

Why, because he’s a Neo-Con.

Which is why she got moved to the State Dept, so there would be no direct supervision. Deliberately, to AVOID a conflict of interest.

Instead, the bureaucrats and their enablers went after Wolfowitz to get rid of him.

I think Wolfowitz should stay where he is. It’s a small price to pay in order to keep him away from whispering into President Bush’s ear and getting us into things we shouldn’t be into.

Right, but her being moved to the State isn’t the issue. The real issue is that, according to the former head of the World Bank’s Ethics Committee, Wolfowitz had never cleared the deal through the Ethics Committee. Wolfowitz went directly to the Human Resources department and submitted the deal, which resulted in the girlfriend getting a pay raise of $60,000 and promises of future pay raises of 8% a year. Her salary was paid by the World Bank because the girlfriend was still a World Bank employee ‘on loan’ to the State Department.

This situation is clearly just not ethical. If I were to work out such a deal for an employee with whom I had a dating relationship at my current job, I would expect to be sacked overnight.

Wolfowitz acted unethically. He should have known better. What is so striking about this situation is how blatant it was!

I find it quite embarrassing for our country!:o

No one has preoven he was guilty of any corruption. Its a hit job by the usual Europan suspects and George Soros.

Except for the fact recently released private moemos from then head of the ethics committe shows he had cleared the whole thing with the ethics committee. Hit job. And peoeple wonder why its hard to get talented people to get involved with the Govt.

We’ll see what the investigation shows. But don’t you agree that if the investigation finds turns out he did push through a deal without consulting with the Ethics Committee that he deserves to be sacked?

Not particulalry. There is ample evidence that he did not want to handle the situation concerning his girlfriend at all but was told he had to. He asked that the Ethics Comitte give him guidance and they wouldnt. They all set him up for a fall

Girlfriend doesn’t seem like the right word. Isn’t she his live-in lover? Seems creepy.
